What is Camera Mod?
2 parts
Camera Mod adds a working camera to Minecraft, plus image frames to show off what you shoot. The camera takes real images of your game, so you can capture builds, machines and views, then display them in your world. This pack includes Camera Mod 1.21.1-1.0.22 for NeoForge.[1][2]
Who it's for
It's a quality-of-life and showcase mod. If you like documenting your base, keeping a visual record of your progress, or decorating with your own screenshots, this is for you. It's multiplayer compatible, so you can share photos with friends on a server.[1]
What you can do with it
- Take a picture: right-click the camera to enter the viewfinder, then right-click again to shoot. Scrolling zooms in and out. Images are saved with the same ratio as your Minecraft window.[1]
- Apply filters: sneak + right-click the camera to open a GUI. The filters are Black and White, Sepia, Desaturated, Overexposed, Oversaturated, Blurry and Inverted.[1]
- View images: right-click the image item, or put it in an image frame. Images can also go into albums and lecterns.[1]
- Use image frames: place the frame on a wall and sneak + right-click it to resize it, up to 8 x 8 blocks. Right-click it with an image in hand to display the image, and right-click again to remove it.[1]
- Keep an album: it holds up to 54 images. Sneak + right-click to add images, right-click to browse, and scroll or use the arrow-up/down keys to switch between them.[1]
- Copy and upload: images can be copied, and custom images can be uploaded.[1]
The date and photographer name are stored with each image item, and images are saved in the world folder.[1]
How do you get started with Camera Mod?
4 parts
Camera Mod is a small, friendly mod: you make a camera, a place to store your shots and a frame to hang them in. The order below is the one that makes the most sense when you play.[1][3]
Make the Camera first
Everything starts with the Camera. Without it you have no images to show off. This is the in-pack recipe:[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any redstone dust | |
| any iron ingot | any colorless glass panes | any iron ingot |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: camera:camera
Right-click the camera to enter the viewfinder, then right-click again to take an image of what you see. You can zoom by scrolling, and images keep the same ratio as your Minecraft window.[1]
Want a different look? Sneak and right-click the camera to open the filter menu. The choices are Black and White, Sepia, Desaturated, Overexposed, Oversaturated, Blurry and Inverted.[1]
Then make an Album
Once you have a few shots, the Album keeps them tidy and out of your way. It holds up to 54 images.[1]
Sneak and right-click the album to add images. Right-click it to view the images inside. Scroll up and down, or press the arrow-up or arrow-down key, to switch the image you are currently viewing.[1]
Finish with an Image Frame
When you have a shot you love, the Image Frame puts it on your base wall.[1]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden rod | any string | any wooden rod |
| any wooden rod | any leather | any wooden rod |
| any wooden rod | any wooden rod | any wooden rod |
Recipe id: camera:image_frame
- Place the image frame item on a wall.[1]
- Sneak and right-click the frame to open the resize menu. Clicking a resize button enlarges the frame in that direction, and sneaking while you click shrinks it. Frames can go up to 8 x 8 blocks.[1]
- Right-click the frame with your chosen image in hand to display it. To remove the image from the frame, right-click the frame again.[1]
Bonus: copying images
You can copy an image by combining it with a piece of paper in the crafting table. That means you can hang one shot in a frame and keep a copy in your album.[1]
How does Camera Mod work?
7 parts
Camera Mod adds a working Camera that takes real images of your game, plus an Image Frame for displaying them. This section covers how those systems work and which settings the pack uses.[1]
Taking an image
- Sneak and right-click the camera to open the filter GUI and pick a filter. The available filters are Black and White, Sepia, Desaturated, Overexposed, Oversaturated, Blurry and Inverted.[1]
- Right-click the camera to go into the viewfinder. Scroll to zoom in and out.[1]
- Right-click again to take an image of what you're currently seeing. It's saved with the same ratio as your Minecraft window.[1]
Images are saved in the world folder. The date and the photographer's name are stored on the image item. The mod works in multiplayer.[1]
Crafting Shaped

Cost and cooldown
Each shot consumes an item from your inventory, which is a piece of paper by default, and the tooltip shows the exact amount. In this pack camera.consumed_item.amount is 1, the same as the mod default. After a shot the camera goes on cooldown, set by camera.cooldown. The pack uses 5,000 milliseconds, which is also the mod default.[1][4][5]
Image size, compression and uploads
Images are sent to the server when you take them. image.max_size caps the transfer at 200,000 bytes, and higher values mean more delay between taking an image and getting it into your inventory. image.compression sets the JPEG compression to 0.5. An image that exceeds the size limit gets compressed anyway. Both values match the mod defaults.[5]
Custom image uploads are allowed in this pack, because image.allow_upload is true. The advanced data option, advanced_data.enable, is off. The config says the mod doesn't use it itself and that you should only enable it if you know what you're doing. When it's on, advanced_data.max_entities controls how many entities get stored, and the pack leaves it at 16.[5]
Viewing and copying images
You can view an image by right-clicking the image item, or by putting it in an image frame. Images can also go into albums and lecterns. To copy an image, combine it with a piece of paper in the crafting table.[1]
Image Frames
Place the Image Frame on a wall. Sneak and right-click it to open the resize GUI, where frames can grow up to 8 x 8 blocks. Clicking a resize button enlarges the frame in that direction. Sneak-clicking, or holding SHIFT, shrinks it instead.[1][4]
To show an image, right-click the frame with the image in hand. Right-click the frame again to take the image back out. In this pack image_frame.only_owner_modify is false, so the owner isn't the only one who can modify or break a frame.[1][5]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden rod | any string | any wooden rod |
| any wooden rod | any leather | any wooden rod |
| any wooden rod | any wooden rod | any wooden rod |

Albums
The Album holds up to 54 images. Sneak and right-click it to add images. Right-click it to view the contents, then scroll or use the up and down arrow keys to switch between images.[1]
Client display settings
These settings only affect your own game. image_date_format is set to the format MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm for the date shown on the image. render_image_item is true, so image items render the actual picture. resize_gui_opacity is 1, which is full opacity for the resize GUI.[6]
How do you progress through Camera Mod?
2 parts
There isn't a tier ladder for this mod in the pack. The recipe dump lists the Camera, the Album and the Image Frame as craftable items. Each is made in a regular crafting grid, and each is listed as a mod recipe, so nothing in the sources shows the pack changing them.[3]
The recipes
The Camera is the core item, and its recipe is shaped, so the layout matters. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any redstone dust | |
| any iron ingot | any colorless glass panes | any iron ingot |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: camera:camera
The Album is a shapeless recipe, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the grid.[3]
The Image Frame is shaped again, so follow the layout shown here.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden rod | any string | any wooden rod |
| any wooden rod | any leather | any wooden rod |
| any wooden rod | any wooden rod | any wooden rod |
Recipe id: camera:image_frame
What this means for progression
The recipe dump shows only plain crafting recipes for these items, with no machine or intermediate crafting step listed. Once you have the materials, you can craft them at a crafting table.[3]
Unverified The sources here do not show where, or whether, the pack's quest book places this mod in a chapter or on a quest path, so this guide cannot say what comes before or after it in the pack's progression.
Which Camera Mod config options matter?
2 parts
Camera has a server config and a client config. Every numeric option in this pack is listed with a matching mod default, so the pack hasn't changed any of those values. The sources don't show a default for the on/off and text options, so I can only tell you what the pack sets them to.[5][6]
Server options (camera-server.toml)
- camera.cooldown is 5000 milliseconds after each photo. That's the mod default, and the allowed range is above 100.[5]
- camera.consumed_item.amount is 1, the mod default. This is how much of the consumed item each photo uses. The mod page says the camera uses a piece of paper per image, and that it's configurable.[1][5]
- image.max_size is 200000 bytes, the mod default. This is the maximum image size when it's sent to the server. The allowed range is 50000 to 1000000.[5]
- image.compression is 0.5, the mod default, on a range of 0.1 to 1.0. This is the JPEG compression applied to the image. If an image goes over the max size, it gets compressed anyway.[5]
- image.allow_upload is true, so custom images can be uploaded.[5]
- image_frame.only_owner_modify is false, so you don't have to be the owner to modify or break an image frame.[5]
- advanced_data.enable is false. The config describes it as extra data stored on image items that the mod doesn't use itself, to enable only if you know what you're doing. advanced_data.max_entities is 16, the mod default, with a range of 1 to 128.[5]
Client options (camera-client.toml)
- image_date_format is "MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm". This is the format of the date shown on the image.[6]
- render_image_item is true, so image items render the actual picture.[6]
- resize_gui_opacity is 1, the mod default, on a range of 0.0 to 1.0. This is the opacity of the resize GUI for image frames.[6]
Unverified The sources don't state mod defaults for the on/off and text options above (upload, owner-only modify, advanced data, date format, image item rendering), so I can't confirm whether the pack changed any of them.
What changed in Camera Mod between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 includes Camera Mod 1.21.1-1.0.22. The pack's mod list says it was first included in FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]
Camera Mod 1.21.1-1.0.22
The mod's own changelog for the version in this pack lists two fixes, both about how photos look:[7]
- Images that were rendered darker than they should be are fixed.[7]
- Image shading is fixed as well.[7]
Unverified Changes to Camera Mod from individual FTB Skies 2 releases would be told in the pack changelogs, but the sources here contain no pack changelog entries for this mod. The two fixes above are the only notable changes confirmed.
