What is Structure Essentials mod?
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
This pack ships with Structure Essentials version 5.0, using the file structureessentials-1.21.1-5.0.jar. The mod was already in the pack by this version or earlier.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm what Structure Essentials adds or who it is aimed at. The available sources are only the pack's mod list, with no description, guidebook or platform page. I'm leaving out any feature claims rather than guessing.
Unverified I found no confirmed information on where the mod fits in the pack's progression. That includes the ATM Star path, and I found no quests that involve the mod. Check in-game before relying on it for progression.
How do you get started with Structure Essentials mod?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Structure Essentials works in the background on how structures are found and placed in the world. In this pack, the settings you can see live in config/structureessentials.json, so your first steps are about checking a few values rather than crafting anything.[2]
Settings worth knowing first
- locateSearchRadius.locateSearchRadius is set to 110. That is how far the locate structure command searches in this pack.[2]
- mapSearchRadius.mapSearchRadius is set to 40. That is the maximum radius map items can search for structures in this pack.[2]
- globalSearchRadius.globalSearchRadius is set to 70. It is the global maximum search radius, and lowering it reduces how long searches stall the server but shortens the range where structures are found.[2]
- structureSearchTimeout.structureSearchTimeout is set to 50, the maximum time in seconds a structure search may take.[2]
- useFastStructureLookup.useFastStructureLookup is on, which enables faster structure searching.[2]
What is switched off
autoBiomeCompat.enableBiomeCompat is false, so structures are not automatically adjusted to fit the biomes that are present. minimumStructureDistance.enabled is also false, so there is no enforced minimum distance between generated structures.[2]
The spacingSeparationModifier.spacingSeparationModifier value is 1. Raising it makes structures spawn farther apart, and lowering it makes them spawn closer together.[2]
Unverified The sources here show no items, crafting recipes or quests for Structure Essentials in this pack, so there is no first item to make. The mod's behaviour is set in config/structureessentials.json.
How does Structure Essentials mod work?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Here's the honest picture: the sources for this pack only cover Structure Essentials through its config file. They describe a mod that works behind the scenes on how structures are placed and found. They don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so none of that is covered here.[2]
Unverified Whether Structure Essentials adds any machines, multiblocks, or power, fluid or item handling is not confirmed by the sources here. There is no in-jar guidebook, no usable documentation, and no recipes for the mod's items.
Structure searching
Structure searches (the locate command, map items and so on) have their own limits. Lowering a radius makes searches stall the server less, but structures are only found within a shorter range.[2]
- globalSearchRadius.globalSearchRadius is the global maximum structure search radius. It is 70 in this pack.[2]
- locateSearchRadius.locateSearchRadius is the search radius for the locate structure command. It is 110 in this pack.[2]
- mapSearchRadius.mapSearchRadius is the maximum radius map items can search for structures. It is 40 in this pack.[2]
- structureSearchTimeout.structureSearchTimeout is the maximum time a structure search may take, set to 50 seconds.[2]
- useFastStructureLookup.useFastStructureLookup is turned on, which enables the faster structure search.[2]
Spacing and overlaps
spacingSeparationModifier.spacingSeparationModifier scales both the average spawn distance (spacing) and the minimum spawn distance (separation) between structures. Higher values push structures farther apart and lower values pull them closer. This pack sets it to 1.[2]
There is also an optional minimum distance between generated structures to reduce overlaps. It is switched off here via minimumStructureDistance.enabled. If you turn it on, minimumStructureDistance.minimumStructureDistance is set to 32 blocks.[2]
Automatic biome compatibility
autoBiomeCompat.enableBiomeCompat is off in this pack. When on, it analyzes the biomes that are present and adjusts structure spawning to include fitting ones. It can also spawn structures in undesired biomes, so check the logs and adjust the strictness.[2]
- autoBiomeCompat.strictness.autoBiomeCompatStrictness is 1.2 here. Lower values allow less similar biomes to be added.[2]
- autoBiomeCompat.dimensionWhitelist.dimensions lists the dimensions the compat applies to: minecraft:overworld, minecraft:the_nether and minecraft:the_end, which are only the vanilla dimensions.[2]
- autoBiomeCompat.enableLogging is on in this pack.[2]
Safety and logging options
- disableLegacyRandomCrashes.disableLegacyRandomCrashes is on. It prevents crashes caused by multithreaded access to thread-specific random number generators.[2]
- warnMissingRegistryEntry.warnMissingRegistryEntry is on. Missing registry entries, such as changed mod structure IDs, become log error messages instead of crashes.[2]
- logDuplicatedSalt.logDuplicatedSalt is on. It logs structure sets that reuse the same salt value, which can make structures spawn in the same place.[2]
- structurePlacementLogging.structurePlacementLogging is off. It is debug logging of structure placement and spams the logs, so only use it for debugging.[2]
Which Structure Essentials mod config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Structure Essentials is all about how structures are placed and found, and its config sits in one file. The good news is that this pack's values match the defaults listed in the file's own descriptions, so I can't point to anything the pack changed from the mod default. The settings below are the ones you're most likely to touch.[2]
Structure search settings
These control how far and how long the game looks when you use the locate command or a map item. All of them are set to their documented defaults here.[2]
- locateSearchRadius.locateSearchRadius is 110. This is the search radius for the locate structure command.[2]
- mapSearchRadius.mapSearchRadius is 40. This is the maximum radius map items can search for structures.[2]
- globalSearchRadius.globalSearchRadius is 70. It sets the global maximum structure search radius.[2]
- structureSearchTimeout.structureSearchTimeout is 50. This is the maximum time in seconds a structure search may take.[2]
- useFastStructureLookup.useFastStructureLookup is true, which enables faster structure search.[2]
Structure spacing
spacingSeparationModifier.spacingSeparationModifier is set to 1, the vanilla default. Raising it makes structures spawn farther apart, and lowering it packs them closer together.[2]
The minimum-distance option, minimumStructureDistance.enabled, is false in this pack, so it isn't active. If you turn it on, the distance (minimumStructureDistance.minimumStructureDistance) is set to 32 blocks, and overlap logging (minimumStructureDistance.logOverlaps) is also false. The config warns that higher distances can strain worldgen through repeated structure retries. It also says that if you want structures spread out more, you should use the spacing/separation modifier instead.[2]
Automatic biome compatibility
autoBiomeCompat.enableBiomeCompat is false, so structures are not automatically adjusted to modded biomes. If you enable it, the strictness (autoBiomeCompat.strictness.autoBiomeCompatStrictness) is 1.2. The config warns that this feature can spawn structures in undesired biomes, so check the logs and adjust the strictness. Logging is already on through autoBiomeCompat.enableLogging.[2]
The dimension whitelist (autoBiomeCompat.dimensionWhitelist.dimensions) lists only the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[2]
Safety and logging
- disableLegacyRandomCrashes.disableLegacyRandomCrashes is true. It prevents crashes caused by multithreaded access to thread-specific random number generators.[2]
- warnMissingRegistryEntry.warnMissingRegistryEntry is true. It turns crashes from missing registry entries into log error messages.[2]
- logDuplicatedSalt.logDuplicatedSalt is true. It logs duplicated salt values, which can make structures spawn in the same place.[2]
- structurePlacementLogging.structurePlacementLogging is false. Turning it on spams the logs, so use it only for debugging.[2]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as structureessentials, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
