What is Wither Skeleton Tweaks?

2 parts

Wither Skeleton Tweaks is a quality-of-life mod that makes finding and farming wither skeletons much less painful. The author's pitch is that vanilla skull farming is frustrating at best, and this mod is their attempt to do better. The pack ships version 11.0.1.[1][2]

What it changes

  • Wither Skull Fragments: any wither skeleton that doesn't drop a Wither Skeleton Skull drops a Wither Skull Fragment.[1]
  • Skeleton conversion: any skeleton that spawns in the Nether becomes a Wither Skeleton. They keep their original weapons, so converted ones can carry bows.[1]
  • Drop cleanup: damaged stone swords and bows are removed from the drop tables of Wither Skeletons, Skeletons, Strays and other skeleton-based creatures.[1]
  • Immolation Blade: a new sword that causes instant death and beheading for all skeleton-based creatures.[1]

Who it's for

If you want wither skeleton skulls without a long grind through the Nether, this mod is for you. Skulls are the part vanilla makes tedious, and the fragments, the extra Nether spawns and the Immolation Blade all speed that up.[1]

How do you get started with Wither Skeleton Tweaks?

3 parts

Wither Skeleton Tweaks is a quality-of-life mod that makes searching for and farming wither skeletons easier. It adds very little to craft, so getting started is mostly about making one item and knowing what changes in the Nether.[1]

Craft the Immolation Blade

The item this mod adds is the Immolation Blade. It's a sword that causes instant death and beheading for all skeleton-based creatures, so it's the one thing worth having in hand before you go skull hunting.[1]

In this pack the blade is made with a shaped crafting recipe, so lay it out exactly as the recipe shows.

Head to the Nether

Any skeleton that spawns in the Nether is converted into a Wither Skeleton. They keep their original weapons, so converted ones will carry bows. This is a big part of what makes finding wither skeletons easier.[1]

What to expect from drops

  • Any wither skeleton that doesn't drop a Wither Skeleton Skull drops a Wither Skull Fragment instead.[1]
  • Damaged Stone Swords and Bows are removed from the drop tables of skeleton-based creatures, including Wither Skeletons, Skeletons and Strays, so you get less junk in your inventory.[1]

How does Wither Skeleton Tweaks work?

5 parts

Wither Skeleton Tweaks is a quality-of-life mod for farming and finding wither skeletons. The sources describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it. What it does is change how skeletons spawn and what they drop, plus one custom sword.[1]

Skull fragments

Any wither skeleton that doesn't drop a Wither Skeleton Skull drops a Wither Skull Fragment instead. This is meant to fix the frustrating vanilla skull grind, so every kill gives you something toward your skull.[1]

Skeleton conversion

Any skeleton that spawns in the Nether is converted into a wither skeleton. The converted ones keep their original weapons, so you can meet wither skeletons carrying bows.[1]

Watch out: Because converted skeletons keep their weapons, a wither skeleton in the Nether may shoot at you from range. Don't assume every one will be a sword-wielding melee mob.[1]

Drop cleanup

Damaged Stone Swords and Bows are removed from the drop tables of all skeleton-based creatures, including wither skeletons, skeletons and strays. Your farm output won't fill up with that junk.[1]

Immolation Blade

The mod adds the Immolation Blade, a sword that causes instant death and beheading for all skeleton-based creatures. Its in-pack crafting recipe is shown below.[1][3]

What the sources don't cover

Unverified Drop chances for skulls and fragments, how many fragments combine into a skull, and any changes the pack makes to this mod are not confirmed. The pack has no config files for this mod, and the sources include no guidebook or in-game descriptions.

How do you progress through Wither Skeleton Tweaks?

The pack data for Wither Skeleton Tweaks shows one crafting recipe, for the Immolation Blade. It is a shaped crafting recipe added by the mod, and no tiers or upgrade steps are shown for it.[3]

The recipe dump lists no item inputs for this recipe, so the block shows the in-pack recipe as the site renders it.

Unverified Any quest that covers Wither Skeleton Tweaks would be in the pack's quest book, and the sources here do not show one. They also do not show a tier breakdown or unlock order for the mod, so this guide does not describe one.

What changed in Wither Skeleton Tweaks between versions?

Wither Skeleton Tweaks ships in All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta as version 11.0.1. It has been in the pack since 0.1.2 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]

Unverified The mod has 11.0.0 and 11.0.1 changelogs, but the entries themselves were not available, so what changed between those versions is unverified. There are also no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say whether the pack changed anything about it in a given release.
