What is Transmog?

3 parts

Transmog lets you change how an item looks without touching its behavior or stats. You pick the look you want, and the item keeps working exactly as before. It works on armor, weapons, tools and anything else you can think of, including items from other mods.[1]

This pack includes Transmog 1.8.0. It's for anyone who likes a particular item's stats but would rather wear or wield something that looks cooler.[2]

What it adds

How it works in short

Place the table in the world and right-click it to open its screen. It has a fuel slot, a target slot and an appearance slot. The target is the item that gets transmogrified. The appearance item decides the new look and is not consumed.[1]

Each Amethyst Shard you add fills the table's power, and every action uses up one third of it. To remove a transmogrification, put the item in the table with nothing in the appearance slot.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Transmog is purely cosmetic, so you can pick it up whenever you like. Nothing in the pack ties it to a particular stage of progression.[1]

Unverified The sources show no quests for this mod and no place for it on the ATM Star path. Any suggested progression order would be a guess.

How do you get started with Transmog?

5 parts

Transmog changes how your items look without touching their stats or behavior, and it works on armor, weapons, tools and items from other mods. Getting started is only two crafts, so here is the order and the reason for it.[1]

Step 1: Make a Void Fragment

Start with Void Fragment. You need it to craft the table, so there's no skipping it. It also has a second use later: put one in the appearance slot and the target item becomes hidden.[1]

Step 2: Craft the Transmogrification Table

Next comes the Transmogrification Table, the main block of the mod. It's where all the transmogrifying happens.[1]

Step 3: Fuel it and transmogrify

Place the table in the world and right-click it to open the interface. From left to right the slots are fuel, target and appearance.[1]

  • Fuel slot: every Amethyst Shard fills up the table's power, and each action removes one third of it. So one shard covers three actions.[1]
  • Target slot: the item you want to transmogrify.[1]
  • Appearance slot: the item whose look the target will copy. It is not consumed.[1]
Tip: Because the appearance item isn't consumed, you can keep your favorite cosmetic piece and reuse it on other items.[1]

Handy tricks

  • If you use an already transmogrified item as the appearance, the target copies that item's transmogrification instead of its original look.[1]
  • Put a Void Fragment in the appearance slot to turn the target into a hidden item.[1]
  • To undo a transmogrification, put the item in the table with nothing in the appearance slot.[1]

Display settings

The mod has client display options. In the mod's default render mode, transmogs show only in the world, so items in your inventory and hotbar still look like the originals until you hold or equip them. The other modes render transmogs everywhere or turn rendering off entirely. If you hit or get hit by another player, a config option can temporarily disable transmog rendering, and setting it to 0 ignores PvP.[3]

The tooltip detail level has full, minimal and none settings. Full is the mod's default and adds the appearance item's original tooltip. Minimal adds only its name, and none adds nothing.[3]

How does Transmog work?

4 parts

Transmog is a simple mod with one main machine. The Transmogrification Table changes how an item looks without touching its behavior or stats. It works on armor, weapons, tools and items from other mods.[1]

Getting the table

You need a Void Fragment to craft the table. Here are the in-pack recipes for both.[1][4]

Using the Transmogrification Table

Place the table in the world and right-click it to open the transmogrification screen. It has three slots, listed here from left to right.[1]

  • Fuel slot: every Amethyst Shard fills up the table's power, and each action removes one third of it.[1]
  • Target slot: the item you put here is the one that gets transmogrified.[1]
  • Appearance slot: the item here decides how the target looks. It is not consumed.[1]
Tip: The appearance item is not consumed in the process, so you can use the same one again for other target items.[1]

Appearance rules

For most items, the appearance item is copied directly onto the target. There are two exceptions.[1]

  • Already transmogrified items: the target takes on the existing item's transmogrified look instead of its original appearance.[1]
  • Void Fragments: put one in the appearance slot and the target becomes a hidden item, so it turns invisible.[1]

To remove a transmogrification, put the item in the table with nothing in the appearance slot.[1]

How transmogs are displayed

The mod has client-side display options, and you can pick how transmogs render. The first mode renders transmogs in the world only, so items in your inventory and hotbar keep their original look and only show the new appearance when held, equipped or otherwise rendered in the world. The second renders them everywhere, including inventories and the hotbar. The last turns rendering off, which effectively disables the mod on your client but keeps the inventory tooltips. The mod describes the in-world-only mode as its default.[3]

With the everywhere mode, hidden items still show up as the original item in your inventory. The mod warns that this might get confusing.[3]

There is also a tooltip detail level. Full adds the appearance item's original tooltip and is the default. Minimal adds only the appearance item's name. None adds nothing about the transmogrification.[3]

Finally, there is a PvP option. If you hit or are hit by another player, transmog rendering is temporarily disabled for a set amount of time. Setting that time to 0 ignores PvP.[3]

Unverified The pack ships no config files for this mod, so it is unconfirmed whether this pack changes any of the display defaults above. Power capacity, how many actions one Amethyst Shard covers, and whether hoppers or pipes can automate the table's slots are also not covered by the available sources.

How do you progress through Transmog?

The recipe data for this pack shows no tier ladder for Transmog. What it does show is the Transmogrification Table and the Void Fragment, and both come from shaped crafting recipes that belong to the mod itself.[4]

What changed in Transmog between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Transmog 1.8.0, using the file transmog-neoforge-1.8.0+26.1.jar. The mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's not a new addition.[2]

Transmog 1.8.0 (22 May 2026)

The 1.8.0+26.1 release is the initial port to 26.1. The mod's own changelog says there are minor changes to the rendering logic under the hood, and it asks players to report any bugs they run into.[5]

That changelog doesn't list any new features or gameplay changes, so if something looks a bit different with your transmogged gear, the rendering tweaks are the first thing to suspect.[5]
