What is Sodium Extra?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Sodium Extra is a Sodium addon that adds features that shouldn't be in Sodium itself. Its goal is to bring most of OptiFine's eye-candy options to Sodium. It also provides some features, such as visual bug fixes and other performance options, that are not yet available on Sodium.[1]

This pack ships Sodium Extra 0.9.3+mc1.21.1, the NeoForge build. It needs Sodium to work, and you'll find its options alongside Sodium's video settings.[1][2]

What you can tweak

  • Animations: control fire, water, lava, block animations and more.[1]
  • Particles: control all types of particles, including ones from other mods.[1]
  • Details: control the sky, stars, sun and moon, weather, and much more.[1]
  • Render: control fog, static entities, and other miscellaneous rendering.[1]
  • Extra: display FPS, coordinates, toast notifications, clouds, and much more.[1]

Who it's for

It's for you if you want to trim visual effects to claw back some frames in a big pack, or if you just want your game to look a certain way. Turning off particles or animations you don't care about is a simple way to do either.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Sodium Extra is a client-side visual and performance tool, not a gameplay mod. It adds no items, recipes or progression steps that I can confirm from the sources, so you can adjust it whenever you like.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show this mod on the ATM Star path or in any quest, so I can't say it plays any part in either.

How do you get started with Sodium Extra?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Sodium Extra is a Sodium addon that aims to bring most of OptiFine's eye-candy options to Sodium. It also provides some features, such as visual bug fixes and other performance options, that are not yet available on Sodium. Your first steps are about its settings rather than crafting.[1]

The mod needs Sodium to work, so Sodium has to be installed alongside it.[1]

What you can tweak first

The mod groups its options into settings pages. Here is what each one covers, so you know where to look when something on screen bugs you.[1]

  • Animations: control fire, water, lava, block animations and more.[1]
  • Particles: control all types of particles, including ones from other mods.[1]
  • Details: control the sky, stars, sun and moon, weather, and much more.[1]
  • Render: control fog, static entities, and other miscellaneous renderings.[1]
  • Extra: display FPS and coordinates, control toast notifications, adjust clouds, and much more.[1]
Tip: If you want an on-screen FPS or coordinates display, the Extra settings are where the mod places them.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show any in-pack recipes or quests for Sodium Extra, so this guide cannot say whether there is anything to craft or unlock with it.

How does Sodium Extra work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The project page describes Sodium Extra as a Sodium addon that adds features that shouldn't be in Sodium. It aims to bring most of OptiFine's eye-candy options to Sodium, and it also provides visual bug fixes and other performance options that are not yet available on Sodium.[1]

Every feature the project page lists is a group of settings, so that is what this section covers: what you can control and how the options are grouped.[1]

How the settings are organized

  • Animations Settings: control fire, water, lava, block animations and more.[1]
  • Particles Settings: control all types of particles, including ones from other mods.[1]
  • Details Settings: control the sky, stars, sun and moon, weather, and much more.[1]
  • Render Settings: control fog, static entities, and other miscellaneous renderings.[1]
  • Extra Settings: display FPS, coordinates, toast notifications, clouds, and much more.[1]

Requirements

The project page says you need to download Sodium for Sodium Extra to work.[1]

What the sources don't show

Unverified The sources here do not include a config file for Sodium Extra in this pack, so the pack's default values for its options, and whether the pack changes any of them, are unverified. The individual option names and their exact effects are also not covered by the sources here.

What changed in Sodium Extra between versions?

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Sodium Extra 0.9.3+mc26.1.2, using the NeoForge file sodium-extra-neoforge-0.9.3+mc26.1.2.jar. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 11 0.0.9 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition.[3]

The mod's own release history includes 0.8.7+mc26.1.1 for Minecraft 26.1.1 and 0.9.3+mc26.1.2 for Minecraft 26.1.2. Each changelog only gives a comparison with the previous release, with no written list of changes.[4][5]

Unverified What actually changed between Sodium Extra 0.8.7 and 0.9.3 is unverified, because the changelogs I have list no individual changes. There are also no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say what changed for it between pack releases.

"From pack files" means the list came from the pack's own files; "from the published release" means ForgeBase read the jars of the release itself.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as sodium_extra, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
