What is FastFurnace?
3 parts
FastFurnace is a performance mod, not a gameplay one. It doesn't add items, blocks or machines. It makes furnaces cost your server and game less TPS, and it does not make anything smelt faster.[1]
The pack includes FastFurnace 10.0.0.[2]
What it does
FastFurnace uses mixins to change how the Furnace, Blast Furnace and Smoker work. It caches the last recipe a furnace used and checks that recipe first, before scanning the whole registry again. Vanilla scans the furnace registry every tick, which is fine in vanilla but gets very expensive in a modded setup.[1]
Any other mod that builds its furnaces on AbstractFurnaceTileEntity gets the same benefit.[1]
Why it matters in a big pack
The mod's own benchmark was run in vanilla, which has only about 70 furnace recipes. The author says a modpack could have upwards of 700, which should increase the performance gain significantly. That is the author's estimate, not a measurement from this pack.[1]
Who it is for
Everyone, and you don't have to do anything. There is nothing to craft or unlock. If you run lots of furnaces, such as banks of them smelting ores or food, it quietly keeps the game running smoother in the background.[1]
Unverified Where this mod fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. The sources give no quests, guidebook entries or ATM Star path information for FastFurnace.
How do you get started with FastFurnace?
2 parts
Good news: FastFurnace has nothing for you to craft. It adds no items of its own, so there is no first recipe to make and no progression to follow. You just play, and it works in the background.[1]
The mod changes how the Furnace, Blast Furnace and Smoker run, to improve their TPS performance. It does not make them smelt faster, so your smelting times stay the same.[1]
What it does for you
A vanilla furnace scans the whole furnace recipe registry every tick. That is fine in vanilla, but in a modded environment the registry gets very large very quickly. FastFurnace remembers the last recipe a furnace used and checks that one first, before it rescans everything.[1]
The mod's own test used 9 furnaces smelting cobblestone the whole time, in vanilla with roughly 70 furnace recipes. The author says a modpack could have upwards of 700, which would increase the performance gain even more.[1]
Any mod whose machines use AbstractFurnaceTileEntity also gets the benefit. That means you can build big smelting setups without worrying as much about lag.[1]
Your first steps
- Build furnaces, blast furnaces and smokers as you normally would. There is nothing to unlock first.[1]
- Keep them running as usual. The cached recipe check happens automatically, with nothing to set up.[1]
- Don't expect faster smelting. If your furnaces feel slow, this mod is not what controls that.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests, in-pack recipes, configuration options or in-game tooltips for this mod, so I can't point you to any of them. If you find one in the pack, it isn't confirmed here. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does FastFurnace work?
4 parts
FastFurnace doesn't add any new machines, blocks or items. It's a pure performance mod that changes how existing furnaces work behind the scenes, so there's nothing new to build, power or pipe.[1]
What it changes
The mod uses mixins to edit the Furnace, Blast Furnace and Smoker. The goal is better TPS performance, not faster smelting. Your furnaces cook at the same speed as before, but they cost the server less.[1]
How the recipe cache works
A vanilla furnace scans the entire furnace recipe registry every tick. That's fine in vanilla, but in a modded setup the registry gets very large very quickly.[1]
FastFurnace caches the last recipe a furnace used and checks that recipe first. It only re-scans the whole registry when it needs to. The mod's author compares this to FastWorkbench, which does the same kind of caching for crafting tables.[1]
Which furnaces benefit
- The Furnace, Blast Furnace and Smoker all get the optimization.[1]
- Any other mod that builds its furnaces on AbstractFurnaceTileEntity also gets the benefit, with no extra setup.[1]
How much does it help?
The author's benchmark ran 9 furnaces smelting cobblestone the entire time, in vanilla, which has roughly 70 furnace recipes. A modpack can have upwards of 700, so the performance gain there should be significantly larger. Those figures describe the mod's own test, not a measurement of this pack.[1]
Unverified The sources don't cover any configuration options, automation behavior (hoppers, item or fluid handling) or pack-specific changes for FastFurnace, so none are described here.
What changed in FastFurnace between versions?
FastFurnace has been part of All the Mods 11 since early in the pack's life. It was first included in version 0.1.2 or earlier, and 0.8.0-beta ships with FastFurnace 10.0.0.[2]
The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there are no pack-level changes to report for it.[2]
Unverified The detailed list of changes in the FastFurnace 10.0.0 release could not be confirmed from the sources available for this guide, so no individual changes are listed here.

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as fastfurnace, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
