What is Shiny!?

Shiny! is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1.3.0 of it, in the file shiny-1.21.1-1.3.0.jar.[1]

It isn't a new addition either: the mod was first included in version 4.5 of the pack or earlier, so it has been around for a good while.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm from the available sources what Shiny! actually does in this pack, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the progression. I also found no sign that it is part of the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so don't plan your progression around it until you've checked in-game.

How do you get started with Shiny!?

Good news: there's no crafting chain to learn first. The only thing the sources show for Shiny! is its language file, and that lists entity names. The mod has shiny versions of a long list of mobs, named in the form "Shiny %s". You'll see names like Shiny Cow, Shiny Creeper, Shiny Enderman and Shiny Ender Dragon, plus a special one called The Shiny Killer Bunny.[2]

The list also covers villagers, with a shiny version for each profession such as Shiny Armorer, Shiny Librarian and Shiny Toolsmith, and every tropical fish variant has a shiny name too. So the first step is simply to explore and keep your eyes open for these mobs.[2]

Tip: Don't mix this up with the quest called Shiny Scales. That quest is in the Ice and Fire chapter and asks for the Ice and Fire item Shiny Scales, which Sirens drop on death. It has nothing to do with the shiny mobs from Shiny!.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show any in-pack recipes, config files or quests for Shiny!, so there are no first items to craft or settings to change that can be confirmed. How shiny mobs appear and what they drop is also unverified.

How does Shiny! work?

2 parts

The sources for Shiny! don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling, so there's no automation setup to walk you through here. What the mod's language file does show is a set of "Shiny" entities, one for each of many vanilla mobs, plus some bucket items.[2]

What the mod adds

Each shiny mob has its own entity name, built from the pattern "Shiny %s". The list includes the Shiny Cow, Shiny Pig and Shiny Sheep, the Shiny Creeper, Shiny Skeleton and Shiny Zombie, and big mobs like the Shiny Ender Dragon, Shiny Wither and Shiny Warden.[2]

Some mobs have extra named variants. Shiny villagers are listed per profession, for example the Shiny Librarian, Shiny Farmer and Shiny Toolsmith. Shiny tropical fish have their own names for the predefined fish, like the Shiny Clownfish and Shiny Blue Tang, and for the fish types, like the Shiny Flopper and Shiny Glitter. There's also one oddity named "The Shiny Killer Bunny".[2]

Shiny fish buckets

Bucket items exist for shiny fish: Bucket of Shiny Axolotl, Bucket of Shiny Cod, Bucket of Shiny Pufferfish, Bucket of Shiny Salmon and Bucket of Shiny Tropical Fish.[2]

Unverified How shiny mobs spawn, how rare they are, what they drop, and whether they behave differently from the normal mobs is not shown by the sources available here. The pack's worldgen, loot and config data for this mod were not provided.

How do you progress through Shiny!?

Unverified I can't confirm any tiers or progression steps for this mod in this pack. The quest book sources I have don't cover it, and no in-pack recipes for its items were provided, so there is no tier breakdown to show here.

Tip: Don't mix this mod up with the Shiny Scales in the Ice and Fire chapter. Shiny Scales is an Ice and Fire item that Sirens drop, and the quest "Shiny Scales" quest says it is used to craft Tide Guardian Armor, Siren Flutes and Water Breathing Potions.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Shiny!?

The quest information I have for this pack doesn't include any quest that asks for an item from this mod, so I can't give you a chapter-by-chapter order for it.[3]

One quest can look related because of its name: "Shiny Scales" quest in the Ice and Fire chapter. It asks for Shiny Scales, and that item belongs to Ice and Fire, not to this mod. The quest comes after "Sirens" quest, which is the Sirens quest, and it says Sirens drop these scales when they die.[3]

The scales are used for Tide Guardian Armor, Siren Flutes and Water Breathing Potions. The follow-up quests are "Tide Guardian Armor" quest and "Siren Flute" quest, so the scales do keep showing up in that chapter.[3]

Unverified Whether any quest in the pack asks for items from this mod's own namespace is unverified.

What changed in Shiny! between versions?

Shiny! has been in All the Mods 10 since the 4.5 release, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.21.1-1.3.0. Here is how it got there, based on the pack changelogs.[1][4]

  • All the Mods 10 4.5: Shiny! was added to the pack at version 1.21.1-1.2.1.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 4.6: updated from 1.21.1-1.2.1 to 1.21.1-1.2.4.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 4.15: updated from 1.21.1-1.2.4 to 1.21.1-1.2.5.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 7.1: updated from 1.21.1-1.2.5 to 1.21.1-1.3.0, which is the version still in the pack at 8.1.[1][7]

The pack changelogs only record the version bumps. Nothing in them says whether the pack changed any of the mod's values or recipes.[4][5][6][7]

Unverified What actually changed inside Shiny! between 1.2.1, 1.2.4, 1.2.5 and 1.3.0 (new features, fixes or balance changes) is unverified, because no changelogs for the shipped jars are available.
