What is MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures?
2 parts
MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures adds lots of vanilla-style floating islands to your world. They're packed with loot, mobs and dungeons, so they give you something new to go exploring for.[1]
The structures are built from vanilla blocks and entities. As you explore them you'll find loot, enemies and villagers. Because nothing here is a new custom block, the islands feel like part of the normal game rather than a separate content layer.[1]
Who it's for
It's for you if you like exploring and want a reason to look up as well as down. Floating islands with dungeons make good side trips between your tech and magic projects. The mod can also be installed server-side only, which is handy if you play on a server.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes version 2.1.2 of the mod, and it was first added in 2.25 or earlier.[2]
The mod's author says every aspect of it can be customized with datapacks, using a separate config pack template.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show whether this pack changes any of the mod's structure settings or loot. Treat the mod's default behavior as unconfirmed for this pack.
Unverified No quests in this pack involve the mod, it isn't on the ATM Star path, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Don't expect any guided progression for it. Treat the islands as optional exploration.
How do you get started with MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures?
2 parts
Good news: there's nothing special to craft first. This mod adds floating islands with cool buildings to explore, and they're built with vanilla blocks and entities. Your first step is simply to get out there and find them.[1][3]
What to do first
- Explore and keep an eye on the sky. The structures are floating islands, so look up as you travel.[1]
- Get ready for what's on them. Islands can hold loot, mobs, dungeons and villagers, so bring gear and supplies for a fight.[1][3]
- Land on an island, explore the buildings, and collect the loot you find along the way.[1][3]
Finding them more or less often
The mod has a universal rarity setting that multiplies the spacing of every Moog's structure. A higher value makes them rarer and a lower value makes them more common. There is also a per-mod version of this multiplier.[4]
Unverified The sources don't show any in-pack recipes or quests for this mod, and they don't confirm the rarity values this pack uses. If you want to know how often islands appear in your world, check the config in your own instance.
How does MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures work?
3 parts
This one works differently from most mods you'll see on the channel. It's described as a world-generation mod that adds lots of floating islands with buildings and other things to explore. The islands are made with vanilla blocks and entities, and you'll find loot, enemies and villagers on them.[1][3]
Unverified The available sources don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item-automation systems for this mod, so none are covered here. No recipes or in-pack config files for it were found either.
How often structures appear
The one system the sources explain is structure spacing. The mod has a universal rarity option that multiplies the spacing of every Moog's structure. A higher value makes the structures rarer and a lower value makes them more common.[4]
There is also a per-mod rarity option that multiplies the spacing of every structure belonging to a given mod. The sources don't say which mods it applies to or what its default value is.[4]
Unverified The default spacing values and the exact config file or key names for these rarity options are not confirmed by the sources, and no config files for this mod were found in the pack.
Customizing with datapacks
The project page says every aspect of the mod can be customized with datapacks, and it points to a config-pack template with full instructions. If you want to change how the structures behave, that's the route the mod's author describes.[1]
Server-side installation
The mod is described as compatible with any modpack, and it can be installed on the server only. That means players don't need it on their own client to see its structures.[1][3]
What changed in MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures 2.1.2. Here is how the mod got there, based on the pack changelogs. They only record version bumps, so you won't find a list of what changed inside the mod itself.[2]
Pack release timeline
- Pack 4.15: the changelog lists Moog's Soaring Structures as removed and MoogsSoaringStructures 1.21-2.0.0 as added. It doesn't say why.[5]
- Pack 5.3: updated from 1.21-2.0.0 to 2.0.0.[6]
- Pack 5.5: updated from 1.21-2.0.1 to 1.21-2.0.2.[7]
- Pack 6.1: updated from 1.21-2.0.2 to 2.0.2.[8]
- Pack 6.3: another entry for the same update, from 1.21-2.0.2 to 2.0.2.[9]
- Pack 7.0: updated from 2.0.2 to 2.1.0.[10]
- Pack 7.1: updated from 2.1.0 to 2.1.2.[11]
The pack file list says the mod was first included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier. The jar in 8.1 is MoogsSoaringStructures-1.21-2.1.2.jar.[2]
Unverified The changelogs for the individual mod versions (2.0.0 through 2.1.2) aren't available, so what changed in structures, generation or config between versions is unconfirmed. The same goes for why the mod was removed and re-added in pack 4.15.
