Mama's MerryMaking is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 1.21.1-17. Maiden's MerryMaking is a festive Christmas and Holiday mod that adds content to your Minecraft world so that you can celebrate your favorite Winter holidays in-game! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Mama's MerryMaking?

3 parts

Mama's MerryMaking is a holiday decoration mod, and this pack includes version 1.21.1-16. It covers festive lights, greenery, furniture, food, a few other celebrations and a set of silly armor, so it's a great pick if you love decorating your base.[1][2][3][4]

What you get

  • Lighting and greenery: festive lights in 4 styles (Classic, Mini, Icicle and Twinkling Icicle), plus garlands, wreaths and Christmas trees.[5][6][7][8]
  • Home decor: decorated doors, picket fences and gates, lamp posts, roof stairs and slabs, and Merry Mantels with fireplace logs. The mantels are 3 blocks wide, 3 blocks high and 1 block deep.[9][10][11][12][13][14]
  • Food and drink: holiday foods, placeable drinks like Hot Cocoa and Eggnog, and trays and dinners that work as decorations you can share.[3][15]
  • Other celebrations: Hanukkah and Kwanzaa blocks and items, including a working Kinara that lights its candles in order.[16][17][18]
  • Extras: Presents, holiday music discs, and festive monsters like the Christmas Creeper.[19][20][21][22]

Ugly Sweater Armor

The part with the most gameplay is the Ugly Sweater Armor. It comes in 2 colors that you can mix and match, and mobs wearing it have a chance to drop hats and sweaters. It has 4 tiers: leather, iron, diamond and netherite. You upgrade it at a Smithing Table, and the upgrade templates can be found in Overworld chests.[23]

Quest book placement

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in this pack's quest book that involves this mod, nor whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book in game if you want to confirm.

How do you get started with Mama's MerryMaking?

6 parts

Mama's MerryMaking is all about decorating, so the early game is a short chain of crafts that build on each other. Start with the Bow, because both the wreath and the garland depend on it.[6][24]

Craft a bow

Make a wreath

The Wreath is the most versatile piece in the mod. You can place it as it is, hang it on a Lamp Post, or combine it with other blocks such as doors and picket fence gates to decorate them. It comes in three styles: plain, white lights and multicolored lights. To get a lit one, combine a wreath with Tree Lights of your choice in a crafting table.[24]

Decorate a door

Combine a wreath and any vanilla door in a crafting table to get a decorated door. Doors with lit wreaths also give off light. Here is the birch version as an example.[26]

Build a picket fence

The Birch Picket Fence is a decorative fence that comes in all the vanilla wood types and has a matching gate. To decorate a fence, combine it with any type of Horizontal Garland, such as Garland (Horizontal), in a crafting table. The gate takes a wreath of your choice instead.[25][27]

Set up a fireplace mantel

Merry Mantels come in every vanilla wood color. Each one is 3 blocks wide, 3 blocks high and 1 block deep, centered on the block you place. You decorate it by clicking each section with Horizontal Garlands of any type and/or stockings, and you remove decorations by clicking with an empty hand.[14]

Tip: Clicking a decorated mantel removes one of its decorations. When you place decoration blocks on a mantel, shift-click so you don't strip it by accident.[14]

Keep the guide book safe

The Merry-Maker's Manual is the mod's own guide to making the most of it. If you lose it, you can craft another, and one of the ingredients is a Candy Cane. For the candy cane you need Peppermint Extract, which you make by using a Bottle of Mint on Water.[15][28][29]

How does Mama's MerryMaking work?

7 parts

The documentation for Mama's MerryMaking in this pack is all about how blocks react when you click, shift-click or craft with them. It doesn't cover power, fluids or automation, so this section sticks to the interactions the in-game guide actually explains.[14][28]

What this pack changes

The pack ships with christmas_creeper_spawn, mob_wear_christmas_armor, mob_drop_christmas_armor and show_all_armors_in_tab all set to false. In practice, Christmas Creepers don't spawn naturally, mobs don't spawn wearing Christmas sweaters and hats, they don't drop them, and not every armor version shows in the Creative tab. The mod's own guide says the mob features can be disabled in the config file.[30][31]

Since mob drops are off here, you'll get Ugly Sweater Armor by crafting the Tier 1 leather pieces. Tiers 2 to 4 (iron, diamond, netherite) are upgrades done in a Smithing Table. Those upgrades need a special Smithing Template, which turns up in Overworld chests and can be duplicated.[23][30]

Lights, garlands and templates

Lights come in four styles: Classic, Mini, Icicle and Twinkling Icicle. Each comes in white or multicolor. Classic and Mini have 8 shapes, while Icicle and Twinkling Icicle have 4 and no vertical or corner versions. Horizontal lights connect in and around corners and are placed much like vines. Diagonal Icicle lights extend under the block they sit on so they connect better.[5]

Horizontal and Cap shapes use standard crafting recipes. Any Left or Right shape needs a template: you craft it with 3 base lights plus the matching template. Templates are reusable and remain after crafting, and the same templates work for both lights and garlands.[5][32]

Garlands follow the same placement rules as Classic and Mini lights, except there's no Cap shape, because a horizontal garland works for a roof peak. To light a garland, combine a horizontal garland with the Tree light of your choice. Spruce Leaves and lights also combine into Leaves with Lights: use Classic base lights for the large versions and Tree Lights for the regular ones.[6][33]

Decorating by crafting

Decorating doors, fences, gates and walls is done with shapeless crafting. Combine any vanilla door with a Wreath to get a wreathed door, and lit wreaths make doors that also give off light. Picket Fences take a Horizontal Garland (like Garland (Horizontal)), and Picket Fence Gates take a wreath. Any vanilla wall can be combined with a garland.[25][26][27][34]

Mantels and fireplace logs

  • Click each section with a Horizontal Garland of any type and/or stockings to decorate it. Place a second piece of the same garland to form a corner on the ends.[14]
  • Click the mantel with an empty hand to remove a decoration. Because clicking removes decorations, shift-click when placing Mantel Deco Blocks or anything else on a mantel.[14]
  • Fireplace Logs have a facing. Light them with Flint and Steel and douse them with a Bucket of Water. They can also be connected to Redstone.[35]

Kwanzaa and Hanukkah blocks

The Kinara and Menorah are the closest thing to puzzles in the mod. Both have a facing. You place candles in a fixed order and light each one with Flint and Steel, and the more candles are lit, the more light the block gives off. The Kinara also sends a chat message as each candle is lit.[18][36]

  • Kinara: 1 black candle, 3 red and 3 green, placed in the order Black, Red, Green, Red, Green, Red, Green.[18]
  • Menorah: 1 blue candle first (the Shamash), then 8 white candles.[36]
  • Wrong color? The most recently placed candle is returned so you can try again. If the block doesn't light up, click with an empty hand to remove all candles and redo the sequence in order.[18][36]

The Mkeka has a facing and holds a single Kinara, or a Chalice by itself, or up to 3 Corn, or a Chalice plus up to 3 Corn. Click it with an empty hand to take things off. A Chalice can also be placed on its own.[37][38]

Lamp posts, trees and roofs

  • Lamp Post: it extends upward when placed on top of itself and has a facing. Use a Torch on the top to light it, then click with an empty hand to turn it off.[39]
  • Once a Lamp Post is 3 blocks tall, you can decorate the thin pole with a bow or any wreath. An empty hand removes the decoration.[39]
  • Christmas Trees: cut down a Small Spruce Tree, optionally dye it white, and place it in a crafted stand. Each of the 3 sections takes one set of Tree Lights, one set of Ornaments and one set of Sweet Berry Garland. A Star or Bow topper goes on the top section.[40]
  • To remove tree decorations, click them with an empty hand. To change the topper, interact with the topper itself.[40]
  • Roof Stairs and Slabs turn snowy over time while it's snowing. Where there's no snow, hit them with a snowball to change them manually.[41]

Food and drink interactions

  • Hot Cocoa, Peppermint Cocoa and Eggnog can be placed as decorations. Shift-click to pick them up, or use them normally to drink. You get an empty mug back.[15]
  • The Ham Dinner and Stuffed Poultry Dinner are eaten like a Cake, and you can take the Platter back when it's empty.[15]
  • On the Cookie Tray and Harvest Tray, each click gives you the topmost item. When it's empty, take the tray back to reuse.[15]

How do you progress through Mama's MerryMaking?

4 parts

Mama's MerryMaking is a decoration mod, so progression here isn't about unlocking machines. It's about crafting chains: raw parts become lights or garlands, those get decorated onto doors, fences and mantels, and the Ugly Sweater Armor has real upgrade tiers. Here's the path in the order you'll meet it.[5][23]

Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod and do not place it on the ATM Star quest path, so there is no quest-guided order. Everything below follows the in-pack recipes and the mod's in-game guide. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Ugly Sweater Armor tiers

This is the only part of the mod with a true tier ladder. The armor comes in a red set and a green set, which you can mix and match. Hats and Sweaters (the helmets and chestplates) can also drop from mobs that are wearing them.[23]

  • Tier 1 (Leather): crafted, or obtained as a mob drop. The red set uses Red Wool and the green set uses Green Wool.[23]
  • Tier 2 (Iron): upgraded in a Smithing Table with the Iron Upgrade Smithing Template.[23]
  • Tier 3 (Diamond): upgraded in a Smithing Table with the Diamond Upgrade Smithing Template.[23]
  • Tier 4 (Netherite): upgraded in a Smithing Table.[23]

The templates for Tier 2 and above are found in chests throughout the Overworld, and you can duplicate them with the template duplication recipe.[23]

Lights: the longest crafting chain

Festive lights come in 4 styles: Classic, Mini, Icicle and Twinkling Icicle. Classic and Mini each have 8 shapes, while the two icicle styles have 4 and no vertical or corner versions. Every style comes in white or multi-color.[5]

  1. Craft the wire. Green Wire is used for Classic and Mini lights, and White Wire for Icicle and Twinkling Icicle.[5]
  2. Craft the bulbs.[5]
  3. Craft the base lights. Each style has its own base type, and the Mini base is also used for Christmas Trees.[5]
  4. Craft the placeable shapes from the base lights. Horizontal and Cap use standard crafting recipes, while Left and Right shapes need a template.[5]

Here's the Classic line from base to shapes, starting with Classic Lights White. The diagonals use the Left Diagonal Template and Right Diagonal Template.[5][25]

The Cap shape also comes straight from the base light.

In this pack the diagonal shapes combine the base light with a template.

Garlands and wreaths

Garlands follow the same shapes as the lights, except there's no Cap shape, because a horizontal garland works for a peak. You start by crafting a Horizontal Garland, and for that you'll need bows. For the lit versions, combine a horizontal garland with the Tree light of your choice. For the other shapes, combine garlands with a template, as with the lights.[6]

Decorating: the payoff

Once you have wreaths and garlands, you can decorate vanilla blocks. Combine any vanilla door with a wreath in a crafting table, and doors with lit wreaths also give off light. The pack's wreath recipes use Wreath plus the door.[25][26]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: merrymaking:acacia_wreath_door

The same pattern works for any vanilla door.

Picket fences are decorated by combining them with a Horizontal Garland, and the matching gates take a wreath. The pack's recipe for the fence itself is a separate step.[25][27]

Then combine the picket fence with a horizontal garland.

Garlands also go on walls such as andesite, brick and blackstone.[25]

Merry Mantels are the last big decorating step. They come in every vanilla wood, are 3 blocks wide, 3 high and 1 deep, and can be dressed with horizontal garlands of any type and stockings.[14]

How does Mama's MerryMaking work with other mods?

The one confirmed link between Mama's MerryMaking and another mod in this pack is the Bottle of Mint. Its in-pack recipe is shapeless, so ingredient placement doesn't matter, and it needs Fresh Mint, an item from a different mod's namespace.[25]

Bottle of MintMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: merrymaking:mint_bottle

This is the in-pack crafting recipe for the Bottle of Mint, and it is a shapeless recipe.

The Bottle of Mint also matters for the mod's holiday treats. The mod's in-game guide says you make Peppermint Extract by using a Bottle of Mint on Water.[15]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve Mama's MerryMaking, so the quest book does not show any other mod connection for it. The sources here show no other recipe linking it to another mod.

Which Mama's MerryMaking config options matter?

Mama's MerryMaking keeps its settings in config/merrymaking-common.toml, and this pack sets every option in that file to false. The festive mob features are all switched off, so the mod's Christmas content won't show up on its own while you explore.[30]

Tip: If you want the festive mobs for a world or a video, these are the keys to change in config/merrymaking-common.toml. The file's own comments say each option is disabled by setting it to False, so true is the enabled state.[30]

What changed in Mama's MerryMaking between versions?

Here's how Mama's MerryMaking has moved through the pack's releases. The pack changelogs only record version bumps, so there's no detail on what changed inside each update.[42][43][44]

  • All the Mods 10 5.3: updated from 1.0.0 to 1.21.1-13.[44]
  • All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 1.21.1-13 to 1.21.1-14.[43]
  • All the Mods 10 7.1: updated from 1.21.1-14 to 1.21.1-16.[42]

All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.21.1-16 (merrymaking-1.21.1-16.jar), the same version the 7.1 update brought in. The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[1][42]

Unverified What each of these updates actually changed (new features, fixes or balance tweaks) is unverified, because no changelogs for the shipped jars are available to the sources here.
