Formations Nether in All the Mods 10

Formations Nether adds a bunch of new structures to the Nether. If you're tired of the same old Nether terrain, this mod gives you more to find while you explore.^[1]

The pack includes Formations Nether version 1.0.5+b. It has been part of the pack since version 1.7 or earlier, so it's a long-standing addition rather than a new one.^[2]

The sources I have don't list individual structures, loot, spawn rates or config options for this mod in the pack, so I'm not guessing at them here. Explore the Nether and see what turns up.^[1]

Formations Nether is a structure mod. It adds a bunch of new structures to the Nether, so the first thing to do is visit the Nether and explore.^[1]

There is no crafting progression to follow here. Nothing in the sources for this pack shows recipes that produce items from this mod, and no quests involve it. That's why this section has no recipe blocks or step-by-step item order.^[1]

Unverified Which structures appear, how often they generate, what loot they hold and whether the pack changed any of this are not confirmed by the available sources. Check the structures in-game before you rely on any of it.

Unverified What each structure contains (layout, loot, mobs) is not shown in the sources here. That detail lives in the mod's template pool data files, which were too long to include.

How often structures appear

Structures are split into groups, and each group is placed with the vanilla random spread system. The common group uses a spacing of 5 and a separation of 2. Every structure in it has a weight of 1, so none is favoured over another when one is picked.^[3]

The rare group holds only the blackstone castle and the checkerboard temple. It uses a spacing of 15 and a separation of 10, so these two turn up less often than the common ones.^[4]

Ore shards get their own group, with a spacing of 4 and a separation of 1. That is a tighter spacing than the common group's 5 or the rare group's 15.^[3][4][5]

The blackstone castle picks between its layouts with equal weight, and each one uses the biome replacements processor.^[6]

Where each structure spawns

Some structures can appear in any Nether biome: the blackstone castle, blackstone remnant, ore shard, respawn anchor altar, small lava arena and sphere cage.^{[7][8][9][10][11][12]}

• Crimson and warped forests: campsite, large house, large tree and small pedestal.^{[13][14][15][16]}
• Basalt deltas only: basalt hut.^[17]
• Nether wastes only: flaming pillar, parkour challenge and small lava shrine.^[18][19][20]
• Nether wastes and soul sand valley: nether wart field and quartz spikes.^[21][22]
• Nether wastes, soul sand valley and basalt deltas: checkerboard temple, large pedestal and small fire arena.^[23][24][25]
• Nether wastes, soul sand valley, crimson forest and warped forest: obsidian pillar and rib cage.^[26][27]

How they are placed in the terrain

Most structures use the underground surface placement in the surface structures step, with beard_thin terrain adaptation. This covers the blackstone castle, blackstone remnant, campsite, checkerboard temple, large house, large pedestal, large tree, nether wart field, obsidian pillar, parkour challenge, quartz spikes and respawn anchor altar.^{[28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39]}

The rib cage, small fire arena, small lava arena, small lava shrine and small pedestal follow the same pattern.^{[40][41][42][43][44]}

A few break the pattern, so check these if you are hunting one.^{[45][46][47][48]}

• The basalt hut uses the underground surface placement but generates in the underground structures step instead of the surface one.^[45]
• The flaming pillar uses an underground on lava placement and no terrain adaptation.^[46]
• Ore shards use an underground ceiling placement, in the underground structures step, with no terrain adaptation. Look up, not down, when hunting for them.^[47]
• The sphere cage uses an underground buried placement with the bury terrain adaptation, so expect it to be hidden in the terrain.^[48]

Formations Nether adds structures to the Nether. The files I can confirm for this pack cover where each structure generates and what some of the chests hold. They don't show a tier ladder or any crafting, so this section is a map of what you can find and where.^{[7][8][9][13][17][18][23]}

Where each structure generates

• Basalt hut: basalt deltas.^[17]
• Blackstone castle: any biome in the Nether biome tag.^[7]
• Blackstone remnant: any biome in the Nether biome tag.^[8]
• Campsite: crimson forest and warped forest.^[13]
• Checkerboard temple: nether wastes, soul sand valley and basalt deltas.^[23]
• Flaming pillar: nether wastes.^[18]
• Ore shard: any biome in the Nether biome tag.^[9]

What the chests hold

The basalt hut chest can give Ghast Tear, Magma Cream, Nether Wart, Blaze Powder, a Saddle, a Warped Fungus On A Stick, Mushroom Stew and Suspicious Stew.^[49]

The campsite chest draws from Ghast Tear, Warped Fungus, Crimson Fungus, Nether Wart, Blaze Powder, a Golden Apple, a Saddle and a Warped Fungus On A Stick. Nether Wart is the most heavily weighted entry there.^[50]

The blackstone remnant chest gives Blackstone, Gold Ingot and Gold Nugget. A second, separate pool has a chance at an enchanted Bow.^[51]

Unverified The mod has many more loot tables, such as the blackstone castle, large house and parkour challenge. They live in the mod's data files, and the sources here do not show what they contain.

Formations Nether has been in All the Mods 10 since version 1.7 or earlier. The version in All the Mods 10 8.2 is 1.0.5+b.^[2]

What changed in the mod

• 1.0.4: on Forge, servers with Formations Nether now show as compatible to clients that don't have it.^[56]
• 1.0.3: the mod can now be loaded on NeoForge.^[56]

Gameplay changes

Only some older releases touched what you find in the world. Version 1.0.2 significantly decreased the valuables found in ore shards structures and slightly decreased how often ore shard structures spawn. Version 1.0.1 adjusted the loot table for the 'small_fire_arena' structure.^[56]
