What is Crash Assistant?
3 parts
Crash Assistant is a crash-helper mod. When Minecraft crashes, it pops up a window that immediately shows the affected game and launcher logs, crash reports and hs_err files. From there you can upload everything with one click and copy a link to paste into Discord or GitHub. The pack ships version 1.11.12.[1][2]
It is client-only, so on a server it does nothing.[1]
Who it is for
It is for anyone who crashes and wants to know why, and for people who help with support. You get a formatted, ready-to-paste report, and anyone helping you gets current logs without having to ask for more files. The mod's author says more than 75% of issues are common and easily solvable, and the analysis aims to cut that support load.[1]
What it does for you
- Analyzes logs for many known crash causes. When it finds one, it shows a dialog with a description and a detailed fix. Examples include out-of-memory errors, duplicated mods, Mixin conflicts, and GPU driver problems.[1]
- Warns you if Minecraft is running on an integrated GPU when a dedicated one is available, and offers a one-click Auto-Fix button on Windows.[1]
- Warns you if your CPU is one of the Intel 13th/14th generation models known to have a critical stability bug.[1]
- Includes analysis tools in the GUI menu, such as a Package/Class Finder that shows which mod contains a given Java class or package.[1]
- Saves the modlist, and for modpack players it lists the mods you added, removed or updated compared with the official list. You can also save it manually with the /crash_assistant modlist save command.[1]
It runs as a separate process that waits for the Minecraft JVM to stop. It also loads very early, so it can catch crashes during startup.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
Crash Assistant is a utility rather than a gameplay mod, so it adds no progression of its own. You don't need to unlock or craft anything. It is there when something goes wrong.[1]
Unverified The sources I was given show no quests or ATM Star path involvement for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found for it.
How do you get started with Crash Assistant?
2 parts
Good news: there's nothing to craft here. Crash Assistant is a safety net that only shows up when Minecraft crashes, so your first steps are really about knowing what it does and how to use it when something goes wrong.[1]
The mod is client-only. It runs on your own game, and on a server it does nothing. If a dedicated server crashes, you won't get this window there.[1]
What happens when the game crashes
- After a crash, a GUI opens right away and shows all the affected game or launcher logs, crash reports and hs_err files.[1]
- If the mod recognizes a known crash reason, it shows a dialog with a description of the problem and a detailed solution. Read that first, since it may save you a lot of guessing.[1]
- If you need help, use the one-click option to upload the logs and copy the link. Sharing that link is much easier than sending files around.[1]
- You can also drag and drop. Drag a single file out of the GUI to wherever you want it, or drag the "Available log files:" label to move all the logs at once.[1]
Handy extras to know about
- It warns you if Minecraft is running on an integrated GPU when a dedicated one is available. That's worth checking if the pack runs poorly.[1]
- It includes auto-fixes for many common issues, plus several analysis tools.[1]
- Its analysis covers many JVM crash (hs_err) causes, such as GPU driver problems and running out of RAM. It also covers many log and crash-report causes, including duplicated mods, missing dependencies, Mixin conflicts and running out of disk space.[1]
Unverified No quests, crafting recipes or in-pack config values for Crash Assistant were found in the sources for this pack, so this section doesn't cover any pack-specific changes to the mod.
How does Crash Assistant work?
4 parts
Crash Assistant is a crash-handling utility, not a content mod, so the machines, multiblocks, power, fluids and automation you might expect in this section don't apply to it. What it does have are a few systems worth understanding, so you know what you're looking at when the game goes down.[1]
What happens after a crash
When Minecraft crashes, the mod shows a GUI that immediately displays all the affected game or launcher logs, crash reports and hs_err files. From that window you can upload them in one click, copy the link and do other things that make reporting and troubleshooting easier.[1]
The GUI supports drag and drop. You can drag files straight out of it to wherever you want, or drag every log at once by grabbing the "Available log files:" label.[1]
Log analysis
The mod checks your logs for many known crash causes. When it recognises one, it shows a dialog with a description of the problem and a detailed fix. It also warns you if Minecraft is running on an integrated GPU when a dedicated one is available, and it includes auto-fixes for many common issues.[1]
The analysis covers JVM crash files (hs_err), regular logs and crash reports, and the Windows Event Log.[1]
- hs_err (JVM crashes): known problem libraries and conditions such as AMD, Nvidia and old Intel GPU drivers, a system out of physical RAM or swap, and Spark crashing on Java 22 or higher.[1]
- Logs and crash reports: causes such as duplicated mods, Mixin conflicts, missing dependencies, Out Of Memory errors, a full disk, and a mod compiled for a newer Java than the one in use.[1]
- Windows Event Log: it detects when the game froze and was terminated by the OS, often because of user input during loading.[1]
After you upload a log, it is also run through the Codex logs analyzer from mclo.gs. Codex messages can be unclear, so for some cases, such as an erroring block or entity, the mod shows its own detailed how-to-fix message instead.[1]
The mod's author says more than 75% of issues are common, easily solvable problems, which is why this cuts down on modpack support. Any analysis can be blacklisted in the mod's config if you want.[1]
Analysis tools
The GUI menu also has a set of analysis tools. Among them are the Create/Epic Fight Addons Compatibility scan, which finds addons that don't match your installed version of Create or Epic Fight, and the MCreator Mod Detector, which lists all mods made with the MCreator tool. The project page is cut off after these, so other tools may exist that I can't confirm.[1]
The theme file
The pack ships a theme file for the mod with many colour values. It sets dark to true and defines colours for things like buttons, menus and notifications. For example, ui.Button.default.startBackground is #83A598 and ui.Notification.errorForeground is #FB4934. The file has more options than I was shown, and these are purely visual.[3]
Which Crash Assistant config options matter?
5 parts
Crash Assistant is client-only, so these options only matter on your own game, not on a server. Everything below is how this pack sets the options in its crash_assistant config.toml. The sources I have don't show the mod's stock defaults, so I can't tell you which of these values the pack actually changed.[1][4]
Help and uploading
- general.help_link is currently set to the pack's community Discord invite. This is the page the request help button opens in your browser.[4]
- general.formulation_type is currently "DISCORD" in this pack, so the GUI text uses wording like 'join the Discord' and 'post in #channel'. GITHUB is the only other supported choice at present.[4]
- general.upload_to is currently "gnomebot.dev" in this pack. Logs still upload to mclo.gs, and this just wraps the link in gnomebot.dev for nicer formatting.[4]
- general.enable_privacy_policy_acceptance is currently true in this pack, so you have to accept the privacy policy before your first log upload.[4]
When the window shows up
- general.show_on_fml_error_screen is currently true in this pack. You get the GUI even when the game dies during mod loading and the FML error screen appears.[4]
- general.kill_old_app is currently true in this pack. An old Crash Assistant window is closed when you start a new Minecraft instance, so you don't get confused by a stale crash.[4]
- general.win_event_is_crash is false. A Windows event log entry on its own won't trigger the window, since that can be a false positive from unrelated spam.[4]
- general.generate_own_launcher_log is currently true in this pack. The mod writes logs/stderr_stream.log from the stderr stream, which many launchers don't save.[4]
Analysis
In this pack's config, analysis.enabled and analysis_tools.enabled are both currently true, so crash-reason detection and the analysis tools are active. Both blacklists, analysis.blacklisted_reasons and analysis_tools.blacklisted_tools, are currently empty, so nothing is switched off.[4]
analysis.first_show_delay is currently 10 in this pack. When a crash reason is shown for the first time, its OK button is delayed by 10 seconds to help make sure you read the recommendation. Setting it to 0 or -1 disables the delay.[4]
analysis.trigger_on_original_modpack_mods is currently false in this pack. When the mod runs in modpack mode and is run by the end user, it won't display analysis that blames a mod from the original pack. It only blames mods that were added or updated by the user.[4]
Crash command and message format
- crash_command.enabled is currently false in this pack, so the crash command is off. crash_command.seconds is currently 10, which is the window for running the command again to confirm if it were enabled.[4]
- generated_message.color_message is currently false in this pack, so the generated message doesn't use ANSI colors. generated_message.ansi_block_pattern still contains the ansi code block. The option's own description suggests removing it when colors are off.[4]
- generated_message.generated_msg_lang and general.default_lang are both currently "en_us" in this pack.[4]
Theme
The pack also ships a theme file for the Crash Assistant window. dark is true, so the window uses a dark look. The rest of that file is UI colors, and you don't need to touch it.[3]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as crash_assistant, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
