What is Comforts?

2 parts

Comforts adds two new ways to sleep: sleeping bags and hammocks. Both work much like beds, with one big difference: using them does not set your spawn point. Your respawn stays safely tied to your home base, even when you nap somewhere far away.[1]

Sleeping Bags and Hammocks

  • Sleeping bags are built for adventuring. Unlike beds they can be stacked, so it's easy to carry a few while you explore, mine or travel.[1]
  • Hammocks work like an inverse bed. Instead of skipping the night, they turn day into night. You craft hammock cloth and then build the hammock from it.[1]
  • Both come in 16 different colors, just like beds, and you can dye any sleeping bag or hammock cloth into any of the other colors.[1]

If you're an explorer who hates losing your spawn to a random bed out in the wilderness, this mod is for you. It's also handy if you need nighttime on demand without waiting through a full day.[1]

In This Pack

All the Mods 10 4.5 includes Comforts 9.0.4+1.21.1. The mod has been part of the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

The mod has configuration options covering auto-use of sleeping bags, a well-rested mechanic, a sleepiness factor, hammocks at night, a sleeping bag break chance, sleeping bag debuffs and insulated sleeping bags.[1]

Unverified How these options are set in this pack, and whether the pack changes any Comforts recipes, could not be confirmed. Check your own config and the in-game recipe viewer if a sleeping bag or hammock doesn't behave the way you expect. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Comforts?

3 parts

Comforts adds sleeping bags and hammocks, and both work like beds with one big difference: they don't set your spawn point when you use them. Your respawn stays safely at your home base, so you can nap anywhere without worrying about waking up in the middle of nowhere after a death.[1]

Each one has its own job. Sleeping bags stack and are built for adventuring, so you can skip the night while you're out exploring. Hammocks work like an inverse bed: they turn day into night. Both come in 16 different colors, just like beds.[1]

What to make first

  1. Start with a sleeping bag. It's the portable option, so you can keep one in your inventory and sleep through the night on your trips without moving your spawn away from home.[1]
  2. Next, grab a hammock cloth if you want to skip the day and jump to night. You can't just place the cloth on its own: its tooltip tells you it needs another item to place, and the mod's rope and nail is the item used for placing hammocks.[1][3]
  3. Once you've got the basics, recolor them to match your base. Any hammock cloth can be re-dyed into any of the other colors.[1][4]
Tip: When sleeping bag auto-use is enabled, the sleeping bag tooltip says it automatically attempts to sleep, and that you place it by using it while crouching. Read the tooltip on your sleeping bag in-game to see which behavior you have.[3]

Dyeing your hammock cloth

In this pack, recoloring is a shapeless crafting recipe. You can start from a hammock cloth of any other color, so you never have to craft a brand new one just to change its color. Here are two examples.[4]

For example, if you want a darker look, you can turn any existing cloth into Black Hammock Cloth or Gray Hammock Cloth instead of starting over.[4]

Things the pack can change

Comforts has config options that decide how these items behave. They cover the time of day when sleeping bags and hammocks can be used, whether using them stops phantoms from spawning, and the percentage chance that a sleeping bag breaks when you use it. A well-rested option can also stop you from sleeping again for a while after you've slept.[3]

Unverified The provided sources don't include this pack's settings for these options, so it's unconfirmed whether sleeping bags can break in All the Mods 10 4.5, whether phantoms are affected, or when each item can be used.

Unverified The in-pack crafting recipes for the base sleeping bags, hammock cloth, and rope and nail weren't in the provided recipe list. The mod also has config options that can turn the default recipes off. Check the recipes in-game before gathering materials. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Unverified How to actually build a hammock between two points isn't covered by the provided sources.

How does Comforts work?

4 parts

Comforts keeps things refreshingly simple. It doesn't revolve around machines or power networks. Instead it adds two new ways to sleep: sleeping bags and hammocks. Both work a lot like beds, with one big difference: they never set your spawn point. Your respawn stays safely at your home base, no matter where you nap.[1]

Sleeping bags: portable beds

Sleeping bags are the adventurer's option. Unlike beds, they stack, so they're much easier to carry around on long trips. Sleeping in one lets you get through the night without changing where you respawn.[1]

The mod has an auto-use option. When it's enabled, you automatically try to sleep in a sleeping bag as soon as you place it. In that mode, the tooltip says the bag automatically attempts to sleep and that you place it by using it while crouching.[3]

Hammocks: the inverse bed

Hammocks flip the usual bed logic. Instead of skipping the night, a hammock turns day into night. Like sleeping bags, they don't set your spawn point.[1]

Placing a hammock is a bit different from placing a bed. The hammock tooltip tells you it needs another item before it can go down, and the mod's rope and nail item is described as being used for placing hammocks. So make sure you have both before you head out to set up your afternoon nap spot.[3]

Unverified The exact steps for building a hammock in the world, such as how the rope and nail pieces need to be positioned, aren't covered by the available sources.

Colors and dyeing

Just like beds, sleeping bags and hammocks come in 16 different colors. You're never stuck with a color you don't like, either: you can dye any hammock cloth or sleeping bag into any of the other colors.[1]

In this pack, the hammock cloth dye recipes are shapeless, so the layout in the crafting grid doesn't matter. The dye slot accepts anything in the matching dye tag rather than only one specific dye item. For example, you can turn any other hammock cloth into Black Hammock Cloth or Blue Hammock Cloth.[4]

Rules the mod can adjust

Comforts has a set of options that change how sleeping works. The list below describes what each one controls, so you know which mechanics exist. There are no Comforts config files in this pack to check, so the actual values used here aren't confirmed.[1][3]

  • Sleeping bags can have a percentage chance to break when you use them. Your luck can modify that chance through a multiplier.[3]
  • Sleeping bags can apply status effects to you after you use them, which the project page lists as sleeping bag debuffs.[1][3]
  • A well-rested mechanic can stop you from sleeping again for a while after you've slept. A separate multiplier controls how long that wait is.[1][3]
  • The time of day when sleeping bags and hammocks can be used is set separately for each item.[3]
  • Trying to sleep in a sleeping bag or a hammock can be set to stop phantoms from spawning.[3]
  • A day-sleeping percentage decides how many players must sleep to skip the day. A value of 0 lets just one player do it, 100 requires everyone, and anything below 0 falls back to the playerSleepingPercentage game rule.[3]
  • The wake-up time can be shifted by a number of ticks, both after sleeping through a night and after sleeping through a day.[3]
  • The default sleeping bag and hammock recipes can each be switched on or off.[3]

Unverified The pack's actual settings for these options aren't confirmed. That includes whether auto-use, the break chance, sleep restrictions and phantom prevention are active. The project page also lists an Insulated Sleeping Bags option, but none of the available sources explain what it does.

How do you progress through Comforts?

1 part

Comforts doesn't have a tier ladder the way a tech mod does. In this pack its items are sleeping bags and hammock cloths, each in a full range of dye colors, for example Red Sleeping Bag and Blue Hammock Cloth. You don't upgrade them; you pick the color you like.[4]

Recoloring your sleeping bag or hammock

The recipes shown for this mod are all shapeless crafting-table recipes that recolor your gear. You take a sleeping bag or hammock cloth of one color, add a dye, and get the same item in the dye's color. For example, you can turn a sleeping bag of another color into a Black Sleeping Bag, or turn a hammock cloth into a Yellow Hammock Cloth.[4]

These are the mod's own recipes, not pack overrides. They accept any item in the matching common dye tag, so dyes from other mods tagged with that color should work too.[4]

Tip: If you already own a sleeping bag or hammock cloth and want a different color, you don't need to craft a new one. A single dye in the crafting grid swaps the color.[4]

Unverified The recipes for crafting a sleeping bag or hammock cloth from scratch, and any rope or other hammock setup items, could not be confirmed from the recipes available for this section. Check the in-game recipe viewer for how to make your first one. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

What changed in Comforts between versions?

Here's what the pack records for Comforts. Comforts was already in All the Mods 10 by version 2.2 or earlier, so it's been part of the pack for a long time.[2]

  • All the Mods 10 3.2: Comforts was updated from 9.0.3+1.21.1 to 9.0.4+1.21.1.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 4.5: the pack ships Comforts 9.0.4+1.21.1 (the NeoForge jar), so there's no change to the mod since the 3.2 update.[2]

Unverified What actually changed between Comforts 9.0.3 and 9.0.4 isn't confirmed. No changelogs for the shipped jars are stored, so I can't tell you which fixes or features that update brought.
