What is Useful Slime?

2 parts

Useful Slime is a small mod that adds slime armor and items with handy abilities. Its core is a retextured version of the slime sling and slime boots from Tinkers' Construct, plus a few other useful and fun slime items.[1]

It's a good fit if you like the Tinkers' Construct slime gear for getting around but want it as standalone items, or if you just like playful movement gadgets in your base and exploration kit.[1]

Version in the pack

The pack ships Useful Slime 1.12.1, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0 or earlier.[2]

Good to know

Tip: If the Slime Boots don't bounce correctly and you use the Performant mod, turn off its "fastCollisions" config. If the problem continues without Performant, the mod's author asks you to report it.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show where Useful Slime fits in the pack's progression. No quests, ATM Star path steps or in-jar guidebook were found for it, so treat it as an optional extra rather than a required step.

How do you get started with Useful Slime?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Useful Slime adds slime armor and a few other slime items with handy abilities. Every item below has a real in-pack recipe, so I'll point you to the recipe blocks and walk through a sensible order to build things in.[1][3]

Start with the Slime Boots

Make Slime Boots first. The pack's quest book describes the slime armor as a fun set for bouncing and climbing everywhere, and the boots are the bouncing part.[3][4]

The mod has a boot surfing option: when it is enabled, holding the jump key lets you keep your momentum and keep bouncing endlessly below 1.5 blocks of fall distance. There is also a setting for whether bouncing damages the boots.[5]

Finish the armor set

Next, complete the set. The quest a quest in "?" in the Basic Armor chapter asks for the helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, so it works as a handy checklist.[4]

  • Slime Helmet: the mod has a setting for whether the helmet takes damage when you climb on the ceiling.[5]
  • Slime Chestplate and Slime Leggings: the mod has a setting for whether these take damage from wall climbing, not counting blocks that are already climbable.[5]

Add the Slime Sling

The Slime Sling is a retextured version of the slime sling from Tinkers' Construct, and it is a good next item once your armor is done.[1][3]

Slime blocks and Jello

After the gear, you can craft the block variants: Bouncy Slime Block and Slippery Slime Block. Jello is a shapeless recipe.[3]

Watch out: The mod has a setting for the maximum speed of an entity on a Slippery Slime Block. Its description warns that a high value can cause lag, because entities can be sent hundreds or thousands of blocks away.[5]
Tip: If the Slime Boots don't bounce right and you are using Performant, turn off its fastCollisions config.[1]

How does Useful Slime work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Useful Slime is a simple mod. The sources describe it as slime armor and items with special abilities, and nothing in them mentions machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. So the mechanics below are mostly about how the armor and blocks behave, and which options can change that.[1][5]

Slime armor abilities

The Slime Boots and Slime Sling are retextured versions of the slime boots and slime sling from Tinkers' Construct. The mod also adds the Slime Helmet, Slime Chestplate and Slime Leggings.[1][3]

  • Slime Boots let you bounce, and an option can make that bouncing damage the boots.[5]
  • Boot surfing is another option. When it is on, holding the jump key lets you keep your momentum and bounce endlessly, as long as your fall distance is below 1.5 blocks.[5]
  • The Slime Helmet lets you climb on the ceiling, and an option can make that damage the helmet.[5]
  • The Slime Chestplate and Slime Leggings allow wall climbing, and an option can make that damage them. Blocks that are already climbable don't count.[5]

I can't show you the pack's values for these options. The sources only give the option descriptions, and no config files for this mod were available. Check the in-game config screen to see whether each damage option is on in your world.[5]

Slippery Slime Block

The Slippery Slime Block has a configurable maximum speed for any entity standing on it. The option's own description warns that a high value can cause lag, because entities can be sent hundreds or thousands of blocks away.[5]

Watch out: Keep the slippery block speed limit modest on a shared server or a big base. Very high values can send entities hundreds or thousands of blocks away and cause lag.[5]

Crafting the key items

All of the mod's items are crafted in the pack with ordinary crafting recipes, and none of them need a machine. These are the recipes for the items covered above.[3]

Tip: If the Slime Boots don't bounce properly and you use Performant, turn off its fastCollisions config. That is the fix the mod author suggests.[1]

Unverified The sources don't explain how the Bouncy Slime Block or Jello behave in play, how the Slime Sling is used, or what the pack's actual config values are. Test them in a creative world before you build around them.

How do you progress through Useful Slime?

3 parts

Useful Slime is a small mod, and in this pack every item it adds comes from an ordinary crafting recipe. The sources here show no tier structure for it, so the groups below are just a handy way to browse what you can make. Each recipe block shows the exact in-pack recipe.[6]

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod, so a quest-driven progression path for it is not confirmed.

Slime blocks

The mod adds the Bouncy Slime Block and the Slippery Slime Block. Both are shaped crafting recipes that start from a regular slime block.[6]

What changed in Useful Slime between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships with Useful Slime 1.12.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so you won't find an older or newer version of it in this release.[2]

Useful Slime 1.12.1

  • Slippery slime blocks now stack to 16.[7]
  • The slippery slime block recipe was improved. The changelog doesn't say what exactly changed, so check the in-game recipe viewer for the current version.[7]
  • The Russian translation was updated.[7]

Unverified The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is no record here of what changed for Useful Slime between pack releases.
