What is Redstone Pen?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Redstone Pen is a wiring mod for people who are tired of bulky redstone dust. It adds a pen for drawing thin, selective redstone tracks, several signal-repeating relays, and a redstone logic controller. It was inspired by the Redstone Paste mod.[1]
In this pack you get Redstone Pen 1.11.42, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]
What it adds
- Redstone Quill and Redstone Pen: both draw and remove thin redstone tracks, and several independent tracks can run through one block space. The Quill pulls redstone dust straight from your inventory. The Pen stores redstone in the item and can be refilled in the crafting grid.[1]
- Signal inspection: sneak while holding the pen or quill and look at a block, track, wire or device to read its current signal.[1]
- Redstone Relays: these re-power signals back to 15 and can be placed on solid faces in any direction. The variants are the normal relay, inverted relay, bi-stable relay, pulse relay and bridging relay.[1]
- Redstone Logic Control: a simplified, PLC-like signal controller that you program with text code.[1]
Who it is for
It suits you if you build compact redstone, such as doors, sorters and other logic. By default, pen tracks do not connect to the block they are drawn on, and they do not pass indirect power through blocks to other tracks. That lets you power the same block from independent routes without interference. If you do want a connection, click the centre of a track with the pen to add an explicit connector.[1]
Where it fits in progression
Unverified The sources do not tie Redstone Pen to any quest or to a particular stage of the pack's progression, so treat it as an optional building tool. Recipes and config values are not covered in this overview.
How do you get started with Redstone Pen?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Redstone Pen adds a pen for drawing thin, precise redstone tracks, a family of signal-repeating relays, and a small programmable logic controller. The pack changed several of its recipes, so follow the recipe blocks below rather than any recipe you remember from other packs.[1][3]
Start with the Redstone Quill
Make the Redstone Quill first. It draws and removes thin redstone tracks, and it uses redstone dust directly from your inventory, so there is nothing to refill. You can run several independent tracks through a single block space.[1]

Upgrade to the Redstone Pen
The Redstone Pen does the same drawing job, but it stores the redstone inside the item, so you don't need loose dust in your inventory while you build. You refill it in the crafting grid with redstone dust or redstone blocks.[1]

Make a Redstone Relay
The Redstone Relay re-powers an incoming signal back up to 15. It can sit on solid faces in any direction, outputs only to the front, and takes input from every side except above. Unlike a repeater it has no switch-on delay, but it does have a switch-off delay of one tick.[1]

The other relay types are all made from this one, one step at a time. Each step is a single-ingredient crafting recipe that takes the previous relay.[3]
- Craft the Redstone Relay into the Inverted Redstone Relay, which turns its output off while the input is on.[1][3]
- Craft the inverted relay into the Bi-Stable Redstone Relay, which flips its output each time the input goes from off to on.[1][3]
- Craft the bi-stable relay into the Pulse Redstone Relay, which emits a short pulse when the input goes from off to on.[1][3]
- Craft the pulse relay into the Bridging Redstone Relay, which forwards power back to front like a normal relay and adds an independent wire from left to right so you can cross tracks.[1][3]
- Craft the bridging relay to get back to the plain Redstone Relay.[3]

How does Redstone Pen work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Redstone Pen is about tidy, compact redstone. You get a Redstone Pen and a Redstone Quill to draw thin redstone tracks, a family of relays that re-power signals, a few wiring helpers, and a text-programmed logic controller. This section covers how each part behaves in this pack.[1]
Drawing tracks with the Pen and Quill
Both tools draw and remove thin redstone tracks in all directions, and several independent tracks can run through one block space. The Quill takes redstone dust straight from your inventory. The Pen stores redstone inside the item and is refilled in the crafting grid with redstone dust or redstone blocks.[1][4]

- The Pen's in-game help says right-click places a track and left-click removes one, and that sneaking while doing so allows center connectors.[4]
- Left-clicking does not destroy blocks, except blocks with no hardness such as grass, repeaters or comparators.[1]
- Sneak while looking at a block, track, wire or device to see the redstone signal it currently has.[1][4]
Tracks normally do not power the block they are drawn on. To change that, click the center of a track to place or remove an explicit connector. Tracks also do not pass indirect power through blocks to other tracks, so you can feed the same block from independent routes without interference.[1][4]
Relays
Relays re-power a redstone signal at full strength. They can be placed on solid faces in all directions, and the output goes only to the front. Inputs come from all sides except from above. They also detect indirect power from the block they sit on, so you can use them to carry track signals through blocks. The relay type decides what the output does when the input changes.[1][4]
- Redstone Relay: according to its in-game help, it re-lays signals from the back and sides to the front with output power 15. It switches on immediately and switches off after a delay of one redstone tick. A redstone tick is 100ms.[1][4]
- Inverted Redstone Relay: according to its in-game help, it re-lays signals from the back and sides to the front with output power 15, but the output is inverted. It is 0 when there is an input signal and 15 when there is not.[1][4]
- Bi-Stable Redstone Relay: according to its in-game help, it switches on and off each time it sees a rising edge (off-to-on) at the input. It takes input from the back and sides and outputs 15.[1][4]
- Pulse Redstone Relay: according to its in-game help, it emits a short pulse of 1 redstone tick when it sees a rising edge at the input.[1][4]
- Bridging Redstone Relay: according to its in-game help, it re-lays signals from the back to the front with output power 15, and also passes a normal redstone signal through from left to right. That lets you cross tracks.[1][4]
The relay types convert into each other in the crafting grid, and the Bridging Relay converts back into the plain Redstone Relay. In this pack the base relay recipe is changed, while the conversion recipes are the mod's own.[3]

Gauge, buttons, levers and the Remote
The in-game help describes the Basic Redstone Gauge as a full-block glass gauge that shows its received redstone signal, and says it insulates signals. The help describes the Basic Button and Basic Lever as fitting basically everywhere, and the Basic Pulse Button as emitting a redstone signal for one tick. The pack changed the recipes for all four.[3][4]

Redstone Logic Control
The in-game help describes the Redstone Logic Control (RLC) as a simplified PLC-style controller. It gives you digital (on/off) and analog (signal strength, comparator output) redstone I/O in all directions. Its ports are named after the first letters of Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Up and Down: R, B, Y, G, U and D. You program it with math expressions. All code lines are calculated in the same tick (read inputs, calculate, write outputs), and the code is case insensitive. Parse errors are marked and prevent the program from starting. Use the RUN/STOP button to start or stop it.[3][4]

Writing code
- In the RLC help, every line is an assignment like R = G & B, and # starts a comment. Assigning to a port makes it an output, and input changes there are then ignored. Using a port that is not already an output in an expression makes it an input.[4]
- The RLC help says to add the .CO suffix to read the comparator output of an adjacent block, for example B.CO. Comparator outputs are never RLC outputs, even if you assign them.[4]
- In the RLC help, arithmetic is integer only, so 1.5 is not accepted. The operators are + - * / and % (modulo). Divisions round toward zero, and division by zero yields 0. Variables hold 32-bit integers, but port values are clamped to 0..15.[4]
- In the RLC help, comparisons (==, !=, >=, <=, >, <) give 0 for false and 15 for true. Logic works with AND, OR, XOR and NOT (also written as &&, ||, ^ and !). Any operand above 0 counts as true, and there are no bitwise operations.[4]
- The RLC help says edge detection uses .RE for a rising edge and .FE for a falling edge. Each gives 15 for one tick when the input changes. Edges are still detected on input ports even if the RLC does not run that tick.[4]
- The RLC help lists these useful functions: IF(X,A,B), INV(X), MAX, MIN, MEAN, LIM, TIME(), CLOCK() and RND(). RND() returns a random value from 0 to 15.[4]
Timers, counters and timing
According to the RLC help, timers are signal based. TON is a switch-on delay, TOF is a switch-off delay, and TP generates a pulse when it sees a rising edge. The RLC has 5 simplified instances of each type, for example TON3(input, ticks). Counters work the same way, with five up-down counters, CNT1 to CNT5. They take optional arguments for counting down, a minimum, a maximum and a reset. Feed them signal edges such as G.RE. They are not guaranteed to be tick-accurate, so use timers when exact timing matters.[4]
According to the RLC help, the interval blocks TIV1 to TIV3 pulse every T ticks, optionally only while an enable input is set. The minimum interval is 3 ticks.[4]
The RLC normally calculates every 4 ticks. When an input port changes from on to off or off to on, the next run is re-scheduled to the next possible tick. You can assign the TICKRATE variable to change the base tick rate to anywhere between 2 and 20 ticks. Comparator inputs do not trigger this re-scheduling.[4]

How do you progress through Redstone Pen?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Redstone Pen has no gated tech tree in this pack. Progression is a matter of which items you craft as your redstone builds get more ambitious. The recipes below are the ones this pack actually uses, and the pack changed many of them from the mod's defaults.[3]
Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod, so no quest-guided path is described. The order below follows the crafting recipes only.
