What is FTB Essentials?
2 parts
FTB Essentials is part of the pack at version 2101.1.10, and it has been here since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. So it's a long-standing piece of the setup, not a recent addition.[1]
Where the quest book puts it
The quest book mentions it in its very first chapter, "Welcome" (chapter 1 of 70 in the book, with 5 quests). One quest in that intro chapter points you to a handful of commands and to the ftbessentials.snbt config file.[2]
The text of that quest (a quest in "Welcome") suggests a few commands for getting around:[2]
- The quest describes /sethome (name of home) as setting a home you can teleport back to with /home (name). Its example is /sethome farm, then /home farm.[2]
- The quest says /spawn teleports you to the spawn of your overworld.[2]
- The quest says /rtp (Random Teleport) teleports you to a random location in the world.[2]
Changing cooldowns and limits
The quest notes that these commands have cooldowns and limits, and says you can change them by editing the ftbessentials.snbt config file. For singleplayer it gives the path saves/(name of save)/serverconfig/, and for servers it gives world/serverconfig/.[2]
How do you get started with FTB Essentials?
3 parts
FTB Essentials has nothing to craft in this pack, so there are no recipes to make first. Your first steps with it are a few commands that make getting around much easier. The pack's quest book covers them in its first chapter, Welcome (chapter 1 of 70), in the quest a quest in "Welcome".[2]
Commands to learn first
- Use /sethome followed by a name to save a home. For example, /sethome farm saves a home called farm.[2]
- Use /home followed by the same name to teleport back. /home farm takes you back to the home you just set.[2]
- Use /spawn to teleport to the spawn of your overworld.[2]
- Use /rtp (Random Teleport) to jump to a random location in the world.[2]
Set a home early, before you wander far from your starting area. That way you can always get back.[2]
Cooldowns and limits
These commands have cooldowns and limits. If you want to change them, edit the file ftbessentials.snbt. In singleplayer you'll find it in saves/(name of save)/serverconfig/. On a server it is in world/serverconfig/.[2]
Unverified The actual cooldown and limit values for these commands are not given in the sources available for this guide.
Other things the Welcome chapter covers
The same chapter has quests on claiming chunks and creating a team, which are handy early on. To claim chunks, open your map with M and click the Claimed Chunks icon in the top left. Left click and drag to claim, or shift-left click a chunk to force load it. To make a team for you and your friends, use /ftbteams party create followed by a team name.[2]
How do you progress through FTB Essentials?
2 parts
The Welcome chapter of the pack's quest book has a quest about helpful commands, and its text points to the ftbessentials.snbt config file.[2]
The text of a quest in "Welcome" says quests in this pack are optional and that mods are not gated behind completing any quests.[2]
The command quest
The text of a quest in "Welcome" describes /sethome (name of home) as setting a home you can teleport back to with /home (name). It also describes /spawn as teleporting you to the spawn of your overworld, and /rtp as a random teleport.[2]
The same quest text notes that these commands have cooldowns and limits, and says you can change them by editing ftbessentials.snbt. It places that file in the serverconfig folder of your save for singleplayer, and in the serverconfig folder of the world on a server.[2]
Tiers and recipes
Unverified The sources I was given don't confirm any tiers or crafting recipes for this mod, so none are described here.
Which All the Mons quests use FTB Essentials?
2 parts
The quest book mentions FTB Essentials in the "Welcome" chapter, the first chapter of the book. Most of that chapter is general onboarding, and only one quest points you to the mod's commands and config file.[2]
The commands quest
The quest that matters here is a quest in "Welcome", the fifth one listed in the chapter. It has no title of its own and uses a checkmark task, so you just read it and tick it off. Its text lists some helpful commands for the pack.[2]
- The quest describes /sethome (name of home) as a way to set a home you can teleport back to with /home (name). Its example is /sethome farm, then /home farm.[2]
- The quest says /spawn teleports you to the spawn of your overworld.[2]
- The quest describes /rtp, short for 'Random Teleport', as teleporting you to a random location in the world.[2]
Other quests in the Welcome chapter
The rest of the chapter covers other topics. "Welcome to All the Mons!" quest introduces the pack and has a dimension task. a quest in "Welcome" tells you that quests are optional and that mods are not gated behind them. a quest in "Welcome" explains claiming chunks from the map. a quest in "Welcome" tells you to use the /ftbteams party create command to make a team. None of these is about the commands above.[2]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as ftbessentials, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
