What is Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn?
2 parts
Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn adds combat outside of standard Pokémon battles. Wild Pokémon can run away or fight back when you attack them or fail to catch them, and your own Pokémon will defend you from hostile Minecraft monsters like zombies and skeletons. The pack ships version 0.10.9 of this mod, and it has been in the pack since 1.3.0 or earlier.[1][2]
It's a recode of the original Cobblemon Fight or Flight addon by Rufia. LyquidQrystal did the recode, updated it for newer Cobblemon versions, and added features and bugfixes.[1]
What it changes
- Whether a wild Pokémon flees or fights depends on its offensive stats compared to its defensive stats, its level and its nature.[1]
- Particularly aggressive Pokémon can attack players who get too close without being provoked. This is disabled by default but can be configured.[1]
- A Pokémon with higher Sp. Atk than Atk gets a ranged attack. Explosive moves can cause an explosion, and HP-draining moves can heal the Pokémon.[1]
- Your Pokémon use the first move in their move set in these fights. The Poke Staff lets you choose which move is used, even forcing a special attacker into melee.[1]
- Your Pokémon can gain experience and EVs by killing mobs without starting a battle, and can even evolve by using moves on other mobs. For example, Primeape needs to use Rage Fist 20 times. Both can be configured.[1]
- The mod adds the Oran Lucky Egg, a held item that boosts the experience your Pokémon earn from mobs they kill. Sneak and right-click your Pokémon to give it the item.[1]
Who it's for
If you want Pokémon to feel like part of Minecraft's combat, with wild ones that bite back and partners that guard you, this is the mod for you. Most of its features are configurable, and you can set which Pokémon are always or never aggressive and tweak multipliers in config/fightorflight.json5.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't show where this mod sits in the pack's progression. It isn't on the ATM Star path, and I can't confirm any quests that involve it. I also can't confirm whether the pack changes any of the mod's default config values, so check the config file in your own instance.
How do you get started with Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn?
3 parts
Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn adds combat outside of normal Pokémon battles. Wild Pokémon can run away or fight back when agitated, and your own team will defend you from hostile Minecraft mobs like zombies and skeletons. In this pack the mod has crafting recipes for the Poke Staff and the Oran Lucky Egg, so those are the first things to make.[1][3]
First: make the Poke Staff
Start with the Poke Staff. Your Pokémon normally use the first move in their move set to work out the type and damage of their attacks. The Poke Staff lets you pick which move they use instead, and it can even force a special attacker into melee. It is the tool that gives you control over how your team fights, so it comes first.[1]

This is a shaped recipe, so the ingredient layout matters.
Next: make the Oran Lucky Egg
Then make the Oran Lucky Egg. It is a held item that gives your Pokémon more experience when it defeats something without starting a Pokémon battle. The tooltip says the amount is the same as the regular Lucky Egg.[1][4]
This is a shapeless recipe, so the layout doesn't matter.
To give it to a Pokémon, sneak and right-click your Pokémon while holding the item.[1]
Then: get your team fighting
- Your Pokémon can gain experience and EVs by killing Pokémon without a battle, as long as they land the last hit. This can be disabled in the config.[1]
- Evolution can also progress through hitting mobs with moves. For example, Primeape needs to use Rage Fist 20 times, and now you can do that outside a traditional battle. This is configurable.[1]
- Mobs killed by your Pokémon drop items and experience as if a tamed wolf had killed them.[1]
Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod and no in-jar guidebook, so the order above is a suggestion based on the mod's features, not a guided progression from the pack.
How does Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn work?
6 parts
Here's the thing to know first: Fight or Flight Reborn isn't a tech mod. The sources describe it as a combat addon for Cobblemon, and none of them mention machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. What it does is add combat outside of standard Pokémon battles, so this section covers how those systems work.[1]
Fight or flee
Wild Pokémon either fight back or run away when you attack them, or when you fail to catch them. Which one they pick depends on their offensive stats compared to their defensive stats, their level and their nature.[1]
Particularly aggressive Pokémon won't wait to be attacked and will go after players who get too close. In the mod this is disabled by default and can be configured. I can't confirm what the pack sets it to, so check in-game before you rely on it.[1]
When a Pokémon hits you, its type decides which effect you get. Some abilities can also lower the aggro of nearby Pokémon.[1]
Ranged and melee attacks
A Pokémon gets a ranged attack if its Sp. Atk is higher than its Atk. Damage, effects and type vary. Explosive moves can cause an explosion, and HP-draining moves can heal your Pokémon from the damage they dealt.[1]
Your own Pokémon use the first move in their move set to work out type and damage. The Poke Staff lets you pick which move they use, and you can even force a special attacker to melee.[1]

Defending you and taunting
Your Pokémon defend you from hostile Minecraft monsters like zombies and skeletons. Mobs they kill drop items and experience as if a tamed wolf had killed them.[1]
Your Pokémon can also taunt a Pokémon that is attacking you. For that, the first move in their move set has to be Taunt, Follow Me, Rage Powder or Torment. A Pokémon with a higher defense stat also takes less damage.[1]
Experience, EVs and evolution without a battle
Your Pokémon can gain experience and EVs by killing Pokémon without starting a Pokémon battle. They need to be the last mob to deal the damage, and the mod lets this be disabled in its config.[1]
They can also evolve by using moves to hit other mobs instead of going through a Pokémon battle. For example, Primeape normally needs to use Rage Fist 20 times to evolve, and now it can do that in the field. This is configurable too.[1]
Oran Lucky Egg
The Oran Lucky Egg is a held item that boosts the experience earned by the holder after defeating something without a battle. The bonus is the same amount as the regular Lucky Egg. To give it, sneak and right-click your Pokémon. It won't give extra XP from any other source.[1][4]
Configuration
The mod says most of its features are configurable: which Pokémon are always or never aggressive, the multipliers, and more. All of it lives in the mod's fightorflight.json5 file in the config folder.[1]
Unverified The pack's actual values in the Fight or Flight Reborn config were not available, so the defaults mentioned above may differ in this pack.
How do you progress through Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn?
2 parts
The sources for this pack don't show a tier ladder for Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn. The only crafted items its recipe data lists are the Poke Staff and the Oran Lucky Egg, and nothing in them links one to the other as a step up. So here's what the pack does show: how each one is crafted.[3]
Poke Staff
The Poke Staff uses a shaped crafting recipe, so the pattern in the crafting grid matters. Some of its materials come from Cobblemon itself.[3]

Oran Lucky Egg
The Oran Lucky Egg uses a shapeless crafting recipe, so the arrangement in the crafting grid doesn't matter. One of its ingredients comes from Cobblemon.[3]
Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter that involves this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found for it. If the pack's quest book places it anywhere, that detail isn't confirmed by these sources.
How does Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn work with other mods?
2 parts
Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn is an addon for Cobblemon, so its link to the rest of the pack is mostly through Cobblemon. In this pack, both of the mod's recipes that touch another mod mix Cobblemon items with vanilla Minecraft items.[1][3]
Poke Staff
The Poke Staff is crafted from Cobblemon apricorns and a vanilla stick. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[3]

The staff lets you pick which move your Pokémon uses in combat outside of battles. Your Pokémon normally use the first move in their move set, and the staff can even force a special attacker to melee.[1]
Oran Lucky Egg
The Oran Lucky Egg is a shapeless recipe that combines a Cobblemon berry with a vanilla egg. Here is the in-pack recipe:[3]
It is a held item. Sneak and right-click your Pokémon to give it the egg, and it will earn more experience from Pokémon that it kills.[1]
What changed in Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn between versions?
5 parts
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Cobblemon Fight or Flight Reborn 0.10.9, and the pack has included this mod since 0.4.0-beta or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, from 0.10.5 up to the version you are playing. I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so this is the mod's history only.[2][5]
0.10.9 (the version in your pack)
0.10.8
- Added support for Cobblemon Size Variation. A Pokemon's size can influence its aggression, and bigger Pokemon are more aggressive by default. New config options let you adjust this yourself.[7]
- The flight mechanic came back, but the changelog says it is not working very well currently because of changes to Cobblemon's Pokemon AI. The flee config option force_enable_flee must be set to true for it to work.[7]
- XP rework: when your Pokemon kill a Pokemon, every one that dealt damage and didn't faint gains the EXP and EVs. The EXP is affected by the Pokemon count, but the EVs aren't. Wild Pokemon now also try to attack the last entity that hit them.[7]
- Other new options: pokemon_share_yield, ender_dragon_has_dragon_type (false by default), min_xp_from_pokemon and max_xp_from_pokemon (-1 by default, meaning no limit).[7]
- Fixed friendly_fire_immunity_owner and some other related configs, which the changelog describes as not working currently. Also fixed the angry particle appearing around passive wild Pokemon.[7]
0.10.7
- A keybind added long ago now works properly. It starts a battle with an aggressive Pokemon around you, so you don't need to aim at it.[8]
- PVE battles started with this mod now use your selected Pokemon.[8]
- New biome options: peaceful_biome, neutral_biome and aggressive_biome. Aggressive biomes need proactive attack enabled first.[8]
- Fixed your Pokemon not protecting themselves when hurt.[8]
0.10.6
- New options force_wild_battle_on_player_attack and force_player_battle_on_player_attack. The second one is marked untested in the changelog.[9]
- The Leftovers mechanic was adjusted so you can't heal Pokemon quickly by sending them out and recalling them over and over.[9]
- Fixed a crash when a Pokemon used a ghost type move on Cobblemon 1.7.2.[9]
0.10.5
- Poke Staff commands were implemented: Move, Attack and Hold Position.[5]
- Fixed the anger effect appearing on Pokemon that can't attack.[5]
